I still don't understand why we had to change!! I hate change!!!
It is our REWARD for being the #1 State thread. So they have given us a brand new shiney thread to decorate on our own. Lets show em how nicely and how fast we can furnish it with lots of fun posts !! !
NO PROBLEM!! LOL!! It's cool!
CarolynF: In the other WA thread I tried to quote you there then post it here but it wouldn't let me. You mentioned that you have a wood floor in your coop. Is that it? You don't need any bedding for them on top of the wood floor? (Please note: I'm not being snotty, I'm a newbie to the world of chickens and am asking b/c I'm curious and wanna learn more)
I have a dirt floor and I'm doing the DL method for now but am definitely wanting to learn more about other options in case this one doesn't work for me. I have a big coop and just want something that will work nicely and not need a lot of time and effort daily.
I've thought about using sand, that seems like it would be really easy to keep clean, easy to scoop poo. Just not sure how easy it would be to keep dry b/c when it gets wet, it clumps up which I would think would make it hard to get it to dry quickly. When the shavings get wet, I just rake and fluff, they dry pretty quickly. I'm also not sure if a sand floor would help much in keeping the birds warm enough?
I have also thought of putting in a wood floor but to me, that seems like it would be really hard to keep clean. I see what happens on the roosts w/the poo and it just smashes and smears all over, I'm pretty sure the wood floor would do the same thing? It seems like you'd never really be able to clean it very well. What are your experiences with this?
Hi guys !
Sorry I am late but been sick...darn it.

Hope you're feeling better; I've been fighting bronchitus for the last month but the rain has cured it.
x2!! where ya been sister?? Hope your getting better??
Just a suggestion for future cases like this. I think it would be easier for Users if old posts could simply be archived or moved, keeping maybe the most recent 6 months as-is. IMHO
Hahaha... don't worry, the dust will settle and you'll love your new home! Reminds me when we moved from our last place (an inlaw setup at my wife's grandparent's house) into our new place (an inlaw setup at my parent's house) and we were able to move very very slowly... so much so that we kinda lived in both places for a few weeks trading off where we slept. The biggest problem: We weren't forced to get rid of all our stuff in one big move.![]()
I'm sorry you feel this way, but this definitely isn't our first time doing this and while it's not comfortable for people who don't like change, it isn't nearly as bad as some may think. Using your analogy of moving a family: It's more like moving the family to the house next door and when visitors come to the house, there is a teleporter that easily and effortlessly takes them to the new house. Even better, all their old stuff is organized nicely and cleanly in a spare bedroom and SUPER easy to access, so anybody who wants to rummage through it can do so without any problems at all.
Easy Peasy Lemon Squeezy!
It's not really any different to look for 6 month old stuff in this thread vs. the old thread. Both are, and will continue to be super easily accessible and searchable.
Yup, that's absolutely what we'll do! I've already updated the first post in that thread and then once it is closed, the last post will have a link to here as well.
Again, this isn't our first rodeo. We have a LOT of experience with this stuff and have gone through this process before without too much of an issue. Give it a few weeks and if you still think it was a horrible thing to do and will cause Washinton to fall into the ocean, let me know and I'll see what I can do to resolve the concerns.![]()
