hope ya enjoy it here This is a great place with LOTS of very nice people.

To those who have had recent losses / tragedies Sorry to hear and hope all gets better soon.

FYI I have been stealing time on a friends plasma cutter. I have 42 no mess chickens cut out. Not sure how many Will be done for Monroe but I should have several since I still have 18 from the last hatch !

Speaking of plasma. The latest on mine is that they are pretty sure they know what is wrong so now just a matter of repair time. Jeanine said she hopes to deliver it when she comes to visit Saturday but not sure yet.

MY BYC BUDDIES ROCK ! ! ! !
Hey CR, do you happen to have a 7" pulley (5/8" shaft) lying about looking for a home? I have an electric motor that would be just great to make a plucker with but need the large pulley to bring the rpm down to where it will not damage the bird, just pluck the feathers.

Hi all,

I posted in the new member forum, but thought I would also introduce myself here too as I am a Washingtonian (allbeit a fairly new Washingtonian).

Been enjoying poking around this site for some time and have loved all of the good information, awesome humor, and chicken camaraderie. Thank you!

We have six lady hen friends (Amerucana, Barred Rock, Buff Orpington, Rhode Island Red, Gold Laced Wyandotte, and a Dominique) and a surprise rooster (Cuckoo Maran), all hatched September 7th (ish) of 2012. They spent the winter in a very large cardboard box in our tiny house (never again), and are all happily outside in their awesome coop my partner designed and built. The gang spends their days 'free ranging' around our backyard, basking in the ever elusive Seattle sunshine, wading in the 'tiny stream' that runs through our yard, and 'hunting' for worms in the garden.

Just last week our Buff Orpington laid her first egg! You would have thought she won a Nobel Prize the way we celebrated that small egg. Its been about a week and she is continuing to lay an egg a day (give or take a few days). We are anxiously waiting for our other lady hen friends to catch on to how cool it is to lay eggs.

Anyways, I think that is enough for now. Excited to join you all!

Peace.

!!!! Just wait til "chicken math" starts!

Quote: I am not sure right off hand. I will look and let you know. I am going to assume you mean 7" dia. What speed is your motor 1725 or 3450. 1725 is the most common but the motor speed has a huge effect on what size pulley you need.
I don't recall having one but will look. IF I don't have I am pretty sure Aaron at Centralia Supply would have one. Just that mine would only cost ya a visit.

my wood shop is nearly complete. table saw (Sarahkatie got the other one today), chop saw, lathe, band saw, routers, router table, etc, etc. Need a planer. Plus the hand tools, chisels, planes, scrapers, sharpening tools and all the other stuff a guy likes to have on hand, nust in case.

A really big Hello and Welcome!

What part of the state are you in? Do you already know about the get together at the Show in Monroe on the 16th? Hope you can make it. We're doing a pit luck, too.

Today's Egg production - see the funky one?

When I saw it in the nest box, I thought it was a soft-shell, but it's not.
Here is a close up.

MY OH MY!

Are Marans generally broody? Just wondering. I can't find it in my breed book.

I had one for a while, and she definitely was, and so was her sister!

it looks like a double-shell wonder? That one should be shown to the county extension office- they might get really excited about it!

Oh... That's a thought! Let us know! Some woman made the front page of the paper because she had an egg inside of an egg?

Tell your roo that being sex linked doesn't mean kinky sex.

I have everything you have except for the lathe. And I really, really need want one. I do have a planer. When you get your planer, invest in a hand-held metal detector. There is nothing worse than a spinning cutter head hitting a staple or nail.
