Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Updates on my new pen..... I want to be able to leave the coop open all the time so I am putting the extra effort into making it predator-proof....

So far I have 'pruned' the oak tree, cleared the junk from my 15'x20' space, dug the perimeter ditch, put down fencing..... Which is 1" chicken wire round three sides, and leftover fencing/mesh on the fourth. Then filled the ditch with big rocks, old bricks/cement.... Cleaned the yard of it all ;-).... And the buried the rocks with the dirt I dug up originally :-D

Now all I need is for dh to fix my kennel panels, and next Tuesday I have a work party set for chicken moving day :)!!

With rocks....

Shearing help!

I have 2 Jacob sheep that are in desperate need of shearing! If any of you know how to shear or know of someone who does, we would like to offer you the wool in exchange for some shearing lessons. This picture was taken last summer, so they are substantially more woolly now!

Interesting on the hatching eggs SadieSue! I bet there is something to it. Most women go into labor during full moons! I wove the wittle wambs! Hope they get sheared!

The mom is a German shepherd. They said dad is an Australian shepherd. they showed me both but who knows if that was really the father ya know?
I figure australian shepherds get about 22-24 inches tall which is about the height i need, german shepherds get a little taller then that. So he should be a good sized dog when he's an adult.
I really don't believe that the dog they pointed out as the father (i believe it was their neighbors dog) was the father of this pup. He does look like he has aussie in him but to me he also looks like he has yellow lab. I've never seen a german shepherd or australian shepherd this yellow color. but will have to wait and see what he looks like as an adult.
He is very sweet looking, I think I see heeler in him myself, blue, would give you the spots, prick ears, and rounded foot pads.JMO

I plan on hatching at least one batch of babies this year.... When would be a good time to start? I'm gonna have Blondie hatch them and raise them so they will be hatched and raised outside. I didn't have any of my batches until mid to late summer last year but those were all unplanned. I plan on collecting eggs for Blondie this time and we will be giving her her own area to hatch her babies. I did successfully have chicks hatch last Nov/Dec but again, unplanned as my hens ran off to the neighbors hay barn...lol. Kept them outside in their coop with a heat lamp and they id great. Just wanted everyones opinion on when a good time is to hatch babies outside with momma

I guess the only thing you need first is for her to go broody? Unless she will just sit on anything or raise anything you put under her anytime. That would be SO awesome!

I <3 the puppy pics. I myself see a lot of heeler in him as well. My friend has red heeler pups and he looks just like them. Either way hes supper cute. Congrats.
