Happy Saturday everyone!

BikerChicky - I can handle dirt, snakes, animal scat, and half a million other things, but throw a spider within visual range and I will RUN for the hills!!!

MikeyB - since you bake well, perhaps you should try this method

ChickAudie - I'd love to help you in your planning, but I'm not sure I'd be able to help with my work schedule right now, but my thoughts are with you!!! And I vote for Leavenworth!

OK, I'm not sure I'm fully understanding "splash", unless its a splash of coke in my drink.

It's looking like I MIGHT get to go to the Monroe show!!!! I'm so stoked! Maybe I'll get to bring my curry chicken bites. Nom nom nom!!! And I always go overboard on food so I'll post an update on that forum when I know for sure! I really really really hope I can go, I can't wait to meet you all.

I feel terrible for my little birdies! They have grown so much in the past two weeks and I haven't had any time to build their coop, let alone time to spend with them. I'm probably going to go to HD and have them cut boards to fit my run so I don't have to waste my time cutting. Just drill, screw, and go! Does anyone else have a "To do" list three miles long like me!? Oooh ooh! I did score a sweet deal on some vintage fruit crates with low sides that I can use as nest boxes!

Does anyone have an EE? My girl was laying everyday, but now its every other day or even every two days. Is that normal? My BA that just started laying is laying everyday like clockwork at 1pm. She's had an attitude lately, maybe she wants attention. I'm half tempted to put a radio in their coop. Maybe some Britney Spears or Barry Manelow will get em going. Heh heh!

Thank you, I will try this today and let you know they turn out.

I did this a couple weeks ago and it worked great! Use the oldest eggs you have, it allows more air into the egg and makes them easier to peel. Fresh eggs are almost impossible to peel because there's not enough air in the egg yet.

Western Rattlesnake

  • While the most common types of snakes in Seattle are nonpoisonous garter snakes, the western rattlesnake is sometimes found in the area. This type of snake may be olive, brown or gray and usually grows from 18 inches to 4 feet long. It has a broad, triangular head, diamond-shaped patterns along the back and a rattle-tipped tail. These types of snakes are usually found in rocky, mountainous areas. Their venom squirts out when attacking a victim, but they cannot spit venom. A western rattlesnake bite usually does not have enough venom to kill a human, but can cause discoloration and painful swelling at the bite mark.
That's funny DD Kayla had to do a report on a critter for school. She chose the Western and Eastern Diamondback Rattlesnakes.

Quote: I would tend to agree with RH I see more heeler than Aussie. I have seen some heelers with partial blue eyes but have not seen with 2 blue. The ears Well I have seen Aussies with stand up ears and flop over ears. I have even had them with one of each. Quincy has stand up ears (all the better to hear you with) His full brother had floppy ears.
Quincy's dad is a National Champion Mini Aussie Show dog. Quincy is not full mini he is 40# and 18" tall.

So twice this week I've found an egg that has fallen out of the nesting box and become cracked. Do I have too much bedding in the nesting box? It's a shame to lose the egg, since we only have one girl(our bantam EE) laying.
Do you have a good vertical "lip" on the front of the nest box? The front of the box should be above the nesting material. Other wise it could be that your girl is getting wild scratching in the nest and kicking it out.

Yikes- I think you just brought back my nightmares! I was once stuck in mud- that kind that's like quicksand- on the banks of a creek that was full of water moccasins in Tulsa. I've never quite been the same since......

2 major improvements over Oklahoma here

1.) no chiggers
2.) no poisonous snakes on this side of mountains

.....the trick to the info on how to make incubators, even with the instructions on the forum, is having a DH (or DW) smart enough to understand said instructuons.

Whew, thank goodness SOMEONE understood that stuff- I'm just the chef & cookie baker!
3.) No Nasty, Humongous TICKS! You go outside and have to check every nook and crannie when you comeback inside!
Cool Thunderstorms Though as long as it's not attached to a tornado that is.

Understanding is not the problem my problem is slowing down enough to follow the directions. The Real Trick is to have someone to give you one of those ( I could of had a V8) Knock to the forehead so you can slow down, focus and follow the directions.

OK, (I'm goinna be kicked outta the Husband's Union for this) I can bake a cake from scratch, make a pie from scratch including the crust, bake bread, including rye and pumpernickle. I don't cook goumet food but I do cook hardy stuff. I also love ethnic dishes and regional dishes.
BUT I CAN'T MAKE A HARD BOILED EGG!! Dang it. They are either over cooked or under cooked.
Can anybody tell me how to do this successfully and consistently? (I really hate green yolks)

My BGF's hubby is the baker in the family. He does cookies etc.

As for HBE's I put my eggs into cold water. Add a splash of vinegar to keep cracks from leaking. Set on a burner and bring to a boil. Once at a boil I turn down to simmer (low) and set a timer for 15 minutes. After the timer goes off I drain the hot water, add cold water and ice. Oh yeah, if you take the pan, empty of water, and just bounce it lightly it will crack the eggs. This allows cold water to get inside the shells as they cool so they are MUCH easier to shell without losing so much egg white. After about 5 minutes of cool down, drain off the water and put in more cold water and ice.

The only time I have had green yolks with this process is when I don't catch the boil.

Hope this helps.

I love heelers i just don't see it in Zeus. The ticking is wrong for a heeler, his shape is wrong, and his personality is no where near a heeler or heeler mix personality. He's just so laid back, and i honestly have never met a laid back heeler or heeler mix.
His color over the past 2 days has slowly been changing. he's also doubled his weight. I think having to fight all the other pups for food left him small, especially with him being laid back. Now there is no fighting for food. And I give him goat milk.
he's supposed to be a half and half... German shepherd Australian shepherd. what they pointed out as the dad I thought was very large for an aussie, but i am not 100% sure on how tall they are supposed to be.
