Free Chicken Coop (6th Ave Tacoma)

Very large, very heavy chicken coop. This will almost certainly need to be moved with a flat bed truck. We can help load, but we cannot deliver. We built this coop ourselves, it's nothing fancy, but it worked very well for our 6 chickens and could easily handle more. Please let us know if you have any questions or would like to come see it. Thanks!

3.) No Nasty, Humongous TICKS! You go outside and have to check every nook and crannie when you comeback inside!
Cool Thunderstorms Though as long as it's not attached to a tornado that is.

I've already picked a nasty tick off one of my dogs this year. I hope it's not going to be a bad year for ticks.

Daily puppy pix fix :) They are actually from this morning but my camera lost a day and i didn't realize it til. Anyway Zeus does great around the chickens. He loves his crate as well. He isn't sure about the ducks, the drake scares him. I let the chickens free range yesterday Zeus wags his tail at them and goes into a play bow but when the chickens walk away from him he finds something else to do. I'm glad he doesn't chase them.
He only woke me up twice last night but then woke me at 6 am and wouldn't go back to sleep. I'm tired today.
Oh and today he weighs 7 lbs after he pottied. When i got him just days ago he was 3.4 lbs. It's why i think his growth was slowed by lack of nutrition from being from a large litter.

Yeah have 2 that I am keeping right now. They are both broody and sharing a nest box. Not a mean bone in thier body I can pick them up and not even get growled at.

That's the way my two girls are. I think I'm going to love having broody Silkies hatch and raise my chicks. Priscilla and Lucille are sitting side by side with 3 eggs each. Pearlie June who is not broody at this time will curl up and sleep between her two girlfriends at night. And I've noticed the past couple of days she's been "helping" by adding her own little eggs to their nests! Yesterday when I sent the girls down the ramp to breakfast and counted eggs there were 7 instead of the expected 6! For a moment I had to think hard about that. Pearlie June had been broody up until 2 weeks ago and hadn't been laying so it just caught me off guard.

This morning she had left another. Good thing her eggs are lighter in color so I can remove them safely from the fertile hatching eggs!

I can't wait to see what kind of mothers these girls are.

What exactly is a "mini Auzzie" Are they a cross breed to make them small? Because I've heard they are australian cattle dog/aussie mix. I've heard they are result of breeding runts together. And aren't they now known as "american shepherd"

That's funny. They do sound a lot a like. We had a family reunion when DD Kayla was 5 she was carrying around two garter snakes forever it seemed like every time she passed by she was holding a snake. The summer before last they had the reunion in Oklahoma so we had to give the girls the if you see a snake Run Don't pick it up speech.
Yikes- I think you just brought back my nightmares! I was once stuck in mud- that kind that's like quicksand- on the banks of a creek that was full of water moccasins in Tulsa. I've never quite been the same since...... 2 major improvements over Oklahoma here 1.) no chiggers 2.) no poisonous snakes on this side of mountains
Yep and in case you didn't see my other post calibrate your thermometer and hygrometer. There is a ton of info in the learning forums here on BYC. That was my BIG mistake.
.....the trick to the info on how to make incubators, even with the instructions on the forum, is having a DH (or DW) smart enough to understand said instructuons. :old Whew, thank goodness SOMEONE understood that stuff- I'm just the chef

Western Rattlesnake

 • While the most common types of snakes in Seattle are nonpoisonous garter snakes, the western rattlesnake is sometimes found in the area. This type of snake may be olive, brown or gray and usually grows from 18 inches to 4 feet long. It has a broad, triangular head, diamond-shaped patterns along the back and a rattle-tipped tail. These types of snakes are usually found in rocky, mountainous areas. Their venom squirts out when attacking a victim, but they cannot spit venom. A western rattlesnake bite usually does not have enough venom to kill a human, but can cause discoloration and painful swelling at the bite mark.
In sixty years of hating snakes, I've only ever heard of Western Rattlers on the wet side when they come out of grain trains, or loads of hay or watermelons Of course I've seen exactly TWO live snakes in Eastern Washington, both yellow-bellied (or common) Racers. I've heard a rattler under the porch at a cabin at Lake Chelan, and seen any number of squashed ones on the Naches Highway in May, but even on my Uncle's apple orchard in Tieton where we played outside barefoot all summer, I never saw a live one. My friend from Entiat moved to Birmingham, Alabama when her children were tiny, and the second week there had a water moccasin curled up in the dog's water dish, having come in through a hole in the back door screen nobody had noticed. She says she's come to appreciate how kind and polite the dry side rattlesnake is. (My husband grew up in Central Texas, and his mother's elder brother's family has a ranch near Tulsa. He has strong feelings about snakes: he's ag'in em.)

My BGF's hubby is the baker in the family. He does cookies etc.

As for HBE's I put my eggs into cold water. Add a splash of vinegar to keep cracks from leaking. Set on a burner and bring to a boil. Once at a boil I turn down to simmer (low) and set a timer for 15 minutes. After the timer goes off I drain the hot water, add cold water and ice. Oh yeah, if you take the pan, empty of water, and just bounce it lightly it will crack the eggs. This allows cold water to get inside the shells as they cool so they are MUCH easier to shell without losing so much egg white. After about 5 minutes of cool down, drain off the water and put in more cold water and ice.

The only time I have had green yolks with this process is when I don't catch the boil.

Hope this helps.
I do almost the same minus the vinegar but I'm going to add it if it helps the cracks.

What exactly is a "mini Auzzie"     Are they a cross breed to make them small?     Because I've heard they are australian cattle dog/aussie mix.    I've heard they are result of breeding runts together.   And aren't they now known as "american shepherd"
Mini Aussies are not akc recognized, I think, unless that recently, but they can be shown in the iabca (international American breed club ??) basically, they are mostly just Australian shepherds that are selectively bred for smal size.... The akc standard lists Australian shepherds should be 18-23", GSD's should be 22-26" depending on gender :)

Unfortunately, when breeders breed for only one trait(size for instance) many of the other traits that make Australian shepherds what they are get thrown to the wayside..... Of course, not all of the mini Aussies are this way, but enough are that they can't all be depended on to have a specific temperament or working ability.....

But this is what happens when any breeding program focus' on looks alone, and not on temperament or ability :)

P.s. I feel a little repetitive... Lol... But it is hard to edit on the phone with one finger 'typing' :)
