Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Hey look at the goodies I scored today ! !

Plastic "elk netting" in 8' wide rolls. Great for top of runs or between runs. I found a free source for limited supply. of this and construction safety fence.

Then while at the BIG W amusement park. I found these. Almost perfect for bators or holding eggs. the Temp range is 54-66 F I got them for less than the price of one (VERY CHEAP {like me} )so couldn't bring myself to walk away.

OK I have the CLOWN CAR PACKED. And to give a clue what I mean. In my Saturn I have an 8' folding table, 2 cat carriers, 1 med dog crate, 1 med packer tote, 1 hog, 1 pigglett, 2 roosters, 1 hen, 48 chicks, one egg turner, 3 bell hangers and DW's big folding chair. In the morning Quincy will go in the back seat. and then there is the crock pot filled with whatever roadkill I find tonight and on the way to Monroe. I REALLY wish this one little pig wasn't having to stay home alone!!!! Anybody?? Tomorrow $50. And meet pigglett. Made for CL's mom.
Cute pig! Hey CR - I've got a surprise somethin' for you tomorrow! Sounds like your Saturn is packed pretty full - are you sure you don't have room for a big honkin' gas barbecue as you're passing by Tacoma either to or from Monroe?

Finished the peanut butter fudge hours ago. DH says we can leave as soon as he gets home from his racquetball game at 10:30, so looks like we'll be there around noon. Looking forward to seeing everyone!

I am sitting down here in CA so wanting to go to that show. Have a good time and take some pictures please. I have never been to a chicken show,

Hubby has given in and decided to let me get chicks to shut me up. I am looking at a place in Lincoln, CA http://sacramento.craigslist.org/grd/3657247529.html called CaliforniaCountryRanch californiacountryranch.com Does anyone have any advice for me on getting some sizzle and silkie chicks? I would love to get possible show quality. Anyone ever heard of this line?

I am also trying to nab a pair of Cream Legbar chicks for $35. Man those are expensive but my wants are many. Wish me luck. Trying to get back to WA as soon as I can. There are too many people down here. Too much noise, too much concrete, too few trees, people all have their heads down rushing someplace getting agitated and tense. Can you see us going down the road in our pickup with 3 cats and a bunch of chickens in the back seat. Going to be a noisy 14 hr drive home.

I'm going to try and be there - got a Saturday off!!! I'm Shocked!

I won't stay for the potluck, because I am meeting a friend for lunch after; but all those foods sound wonderful!

I asked this before but it got lost in the muddle of posts a couple days ago. Lucy is now squatting for me again, comb getting redder, and she's spending more time away from her babies (just not covering them near as much). For a treat she'll flat out plow them down, although she still talks to them and calls them for treats and food she finds. I know she's still taking care of them and sleeping with them under her though. She was broody for 4 weeks and has had the chicks for 5 weeks tomorrow, although the youngest one (given later) is only 4.5 weeks. How long until Lucy abandons caring for them and goes back to laying eggs? Any chance I'm going to need to get a heat lamp for the coop to make sure they stay warm enough if she stops caring for them? Thanks!
Jess, by 5 weeks they should be off heat anyway or nearly off it. Even if she does wean them now they will likely be able to sleep under her at night. Try and not stress it. Mother nature knows what she is doing. Remember, this is why you wanted a broody to raise them, so you wouldn't have to. They will be fine.
