Travis - After I woke up to another empty feeder this morning and quite a mess around the brooder, I decided to try the wet feed. I have no idea how much 8 one week old chicks will eat in a day, but I started with a cup of feed. THEY WENT NUTS! I swear all they did for over an hour was chow down on the wet feed. I'm glad I did it! No more hanging feeder for sure, at least until they're too big to jump on the feeder and empty it. They're all completely tuckered out and have been sleeping motionless for over an hour since the new feed mayhem ended.

so glad to read about the wet feed trial and success; how did you mix it? On the meaties forum they talk about adding ACV and fermenting it in a bucket for a while; did you do that or just add water? I think I will try this somehow, cause they sure do waste a lot of feed.

Just a quick bump on this one.  I think it's safe to assume the goose and duck feed contains no chocolate, onions, garlic, or potato peels, so I think we're good.

Just still curious if layer feed will be ok for the chicks?

A Big No please don't feed layer to chicks it's so bad for them.

May I ask what studies you could site that say this? I've been studying animal nutrition for over 15 years and have heard this opinion, and while I can find scientific studies that show it is not ideal, I have never ever found one that says it's harmful.

I cannot site any but can say others on here who have studied this think that it pushes the pullet chicks towards too early development. Potentially causing internal laying in the long run.

Pretty enough to frame and hang on the wall. Some look like Jackson Pollock paintings.

The kids thought they were cool... The koolaid sorda left a sugar film on them that bubbles and will rub off when wet. It gives a very cool effect to them
