whoohoo, alrighty now.
Thank you again.

A hard day for this old man.
The maple I planted for my Birdie May was the object of my attention the last few days. Some of the limbs are low and when I cut the grass it was very difficult to avoid a whack in the face from them but this year it was impossible. So I removed the sod from around the tree (15' x 8') area so I could lay some fabric down and cover with mulch. (shredded bark stuff) Grrrrrr, the guy that cut the fabric cut it only 6' wide instead of the 8'. He had the order of cuts to be made. Lazy no good, badwords, badwords. Anyway I used another piece I had also purchased (3' wide) to finish (it was cut crooked) but I didn't want a seam. Grrrrrr
So now I have to go back and tell them and purchase another piece of fabric to replace the 3' piece.
A yard and 1/2 of mulch was not enough, need to get another load, more shoveling, ugh. But, it was good exercise.

7 eggs from 8 hens. Alright, and the girls are look fine.

Sara; that's good news your doggie is doing ok. Did you ever find out how he/her hurt its self?
I can smell the fresh brewed coffee calling me. Later peeps.

Hi all, I am looking for a handyman in the north end to build a cedar gate on my side yard, approx 7'wide with latch to open and close- have one post in place. DH just has too many other things on his list to get to this any time soon and I want my girls to have this area closed off and secure for a free ranging run and enjoy eating grass and bugs.
If you can recommend anybody, please let me know. thanks,

Sounds like everyone had a good Easter! I felt weird because DH and I returned that day from a little vaca. DD and I still colored eggs and since she is 12 and knows who the Easter bunny is, we started a new tradition! We had 18 eggs to hide so split them between the 3 of us and gave ourselves zones to hide our 6 in. In each zone, the 2 who didn't hide in that area had to hunt. This was near dusk and we often had to give clues due to the challenge of seeing! It was super fun and DD was thrilled to be involved in hiding the eggs for a change! She and I tied for 2nd place and DH beat us by 3 eggs!
Back when my oldest was an infant (26 years ago) another couple and my ex-hubby and I all hid eggs. It was girls vs. guys, and it was a hoot. We spent hours doing this in thier house.

My boys are too old (27 and 23) and my DSD's are in California for Easter.

I spent the day working on my pen and had a wonderful ham dinner at a friends.

I didn't find what she cut herself on :-( but it was dark and she tends to fling her body around a lot.... Could be something as simple as crashing into a cart or toolbox....

She's home now, stitched, spayed, and fatty tissue cyst on head removed :) and she is def loopy ;-)

The spay and cyst removal are the silver linings in this entire adventure

Just popping in, I'm all caught up like usual but simply have nothing to say lately. Chicks are growing fast and the 12 day olds are already off heat for two 2 hour sessions per day. The outside chicks are enormous at 7-9 weeks old and have been roosting alone without Lucy for over a week. Some pics, sorry I look like garbage, I started working out hardcore and haven't showered after my workout today yet. John had a stomach flu Wednesday and Isaac got it yesterday, but we've been otherwise healthy and had a wonderful Easter Sunday worshipping the King!

Sweet William fell asleep late this afternoon during a snack while momma read history to the big kids:

This is Cathy....Chatty Cathy. She stands amidst the dead looking sleeping bodies of her exhausted chickie flock mates, bored to death, peeping as loudly as she can and stomping their faces to wake them up:

Resulting in her boredom getting the best of me too:

If anyone needs me, I'm around, just quiet lately :D

Cute pics Jess.

Hey - does anyone have ideas on how to convert a wooden gate to an auto-closing gate? We need to do something to a side gate to keep the chickens in when the kids go out to the cul-de-sac to play basketball. My birds have gotten out twice this past week - and that's a big no-no around here. We're trying to get the kids to remember to shut the gate, but that's really not working out so well.

you mean just like a spring? Something like this: http://www.hooverfence.com/woodfence/gatespring.htm

or a hinge like this http://www.lowes.com/pd_168219-1277-CD6212_4294856551__?productId=3151219&Ns=p_product_avg_rating|1&pl=1&currentURL=%3FNs%3Dp_product_avg_rating%7C1&facetInfo=

I need to do this too! Some of my girls can get over the gate, so it doesn't keep them IN, but it does keep dogs OUT.
