Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Hello fellow Washingtonians. I know this should go on the B/S/T thread but I prefer to work locally. I have a blue or lavender (I was told blue but it is really light) pure ameraucna 3 week old chick that needs a new home. I got this little one at the Feather Fanciers show and since then my broody hatched out 4 grey chicks. That is just too much grey in my flock so this little one needs a home. I am located between Woodinville and Monroe. Please PM me if you are interested.

These pictures are terrible. It was bed time and little grey was desperate to get back with the other chicks. The color looks off too. It's grey is a very light, pretty grey.

Who did you buy this cutie from? Is it bantam or Large Fowl? Do you know the sex?

Jessica.... thanks for the link. The dog house I'm using for their coop doesn't have any windows so they'd be in the dark all that time. I wonder how that would affect them.

I was thinking about your little ones being abandoned... didn't the hen "mother" them at night for a while? I thought I read that, but my memory is full of holes!

BTW, I love the pics you've posted lately... such a photogenic family!

My only silkie died Today. She was one of my favorite hens!

I want to know what killed her but I dont know how to hide how she died can anyone tell me how to? It may be too gruesome for some.

I'm not sure how to hide stuff. Haven't messed around with that. Sorry about your girl. Silkies are even more vulnerable because they can't see well.

Hey everyone it's been a while since I've been on here! I have a dove that until today I thought was a male but she is sitting on an egg! I'm so happy for her but it's not fertil. So I was thinking that I might be able to get her to hatch a couple quail. The timing is the same. do any of you think this will work? Also wondering if there is anyone in here that is the snohomish area who has a couple fertile quail eggs. Thanks

Cute pics Jess.

Hey - does anyone have ideas on how to convert a wooden gate to an auto-closing gate? We need to do something to a side gate to keep the chickens in when the kids go out to the cul-de-sac to play basketball. My birds have gotten out twice this past week - and that's a big no-no around here. We're trying to get the kids to remember to shut the gate, but that's really not working out so well.

I used to use something like this at another house. It's low tech, but it works.

Yes! Thank you. I just showed it to DH. I have never seen anything like that before. That looks like a pretty easy install, too.
I have one of those. They work just fine.

When we first moved to this house, the dogs would get out about once a month. We couldn't figure out how until one day, I noticed the meter reader walking down the drive way. Light bulb moment. The spring fixed that problem.

Oh my gosh!  I just went out to check on the girls.  Latte is a big girl now!!!!  She is in the big girl's coop, on a roost bar right next to her archenemy, the Drama Queen!  This is the first time she has ever dared to set foot in that coop when the big girls were in there.

:celebrate The Latte vs. Drama drama might FINALLY be coming to an end!  :weee

Woohoo! For latte!!
Anja is def on the mend.
K, I would say more but clearly my brain isn't awake yet.... Even though now is prob the only time today that I will have to post, lol ;-)

Heavy duty screen door spring. I have then on all my coop doors for the same reason. Or a weight on a rope and pulley.

my first setting I only managed about 20% hatching. the twenty chicks that I did get are all doing great but I know that was a bad first atempt.

well the second atempt was me just grabbing some eggs from the few hens I have wandering the farm. I usually eat them, but about three weeks ago I threw four into the incubator. 100 %this time. small sample but I am starting to figure this out.

I also have 17 rosecomb ancona eggs that I picked up at the monroe show that go on lock down today and i expect a strong hatch on them as well
