Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Coop is halfway done! Had to stop when we ran out of wood. Off to the lumber yard tomorrow for a few 2x4 s and some plywood. Can anyone tell me how big the chicken door should be?

They are gorgeous!! I love my EE hens' personalities. I have never had a true Ameraucana, are their personalities similar??

I don't know... I've never had EE's but they are very sweet....and seem to have quiet personalities.... Right now my mixed flock of 14 chicks(5-12 wks old) is still adjusting to each other.....

Sweet SadieSue, I will let you know when he hooks it up and I will have him load one for you. I have a small portable 3" craftsman saw that would cut through it easily and without much effort, just let me know how high you want it. It's a top-opening, not a side, so a little bit different than the one on craigslist.

If it's 4 x 4 x 4, the top = the side = the bottom = the other side

doesn't it?

My new pullets...

I couldn't get a pic of the second black/wheaten cross.... She was snuggled in the back for a nap
Gee... those wheatens are Super light aren't they? I wonder what their parents look like. Thanks for posting these and the story about macho little Dash. He was a little on the shy side with his siblings. He must have been watching and thinking about what he was going to do when he got his own harem! Can't wait to see how he feathers out as an adult.

Well, I just ordered it! I hope it's a good one. I'm excited that it's all plastic (eco flex, whatever that is) and won't rot from the rain. I don't have to paint it. I don't have to cover anything with hardware cloth. It's just for a broody and chicks, so I'm not going to predator proof it either, just gonna set it down in the yard and call it good. The plastic tray inside can be easily removed and hosed off. The way I will orient it in the yard will be facing away from all wind and driving rain as well, so only minimal rain could ever get past the hardware cloth. I only paid $288.15 after my coupon and rewards too!

Wanna know what's even better?! I should get it Wednesday!!!!! That gives me only 2 days left of the mess Lucy has created for my flock. She will immediately be locked in the broody coop Wednesday and not be allowed out for 2-3 days (she can poop down below), the big girls can all have their nest boxes back in the coop (she wouldn't even let the others lay eggs in the OTHER nest!), and the hutch they're using for laying will soon occupy MY babies, two or three of the 8 that are in the small brooder. Then everyone will be back to normal, happy, and not crowded!!!! That, my friends, is why I LOVE Wayfair.com.

I have a Black Australorp that just went broody. she just turned two in March. She was broody last August and turned out to be a very good mom. I don't remember how many chicks she had because I had three moms with chicks at the same time. she is a very calm girl. I really don't want to get rid of her but I do need to down size. I know in the past some people have been looking for a broody hen.

If interested you can PM me

seems like everyong had a good time at the show. I was harvesting pigs and could not make it.

I had to move an electric fence to open a new area for the cows today. I went into a shed to get some posts, and can't believe what I found.

we have a small flock that just free ranges here. two buff roos, two barred rock hens, two buff hens, a cornishx roo, and a turkey is what we had. the turkey and cornishx were birds that hid during our last butcher date last year and the buffs and barred rock were left over from brooding and selling a lot of pullets last spring. the roos were part of the hatchery shipment that were miss sexed. so it is an unusual flock. well about 8 weeks ago the turkey and one of the buff hens disapeared. I find and count the flock every day and there have been 6 birds for two months. I shot a coyote right after the two came up missing so I was sure they were taken.

today in the shed I found the other buff hen, alive and looking prety good, sitting on a nest. she has not been with the rest of the flock for weeks. I would have seen her. she must have gone out for food and water at night because no one here has seen her with the flock or a lone hen the whole time.
