Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Dave - I have no help, no truck, no strength in my arms due to chronic nerve pain. I cannot pick up anything...needs to be delivered or shipped. I have no help and no strength to paint anything or make modifications like adding hardware cloth, roosts, etc. DH works 100+ hours a week right now. SO, I need something for $200-300 that is READY, in GOOD shape, painted, and perfect for a broody and chicks. Wanna make me something and deliver it? No...really...want to? :D   The reason I chose that coop in that material is because it is easy for one person to put together alone, sturdy, won't rot from being set down in the grass or dirt permanently, has a window and 2 levels and plenty of room for a broody and chicks, and the price point is right.

IF ANYONE CAN BUILD (AND PAINT) SOMETHING SIMILAR TO THE AFORE MENTIONED COOP FOR $300 IN THE NEXT 2-3 WEEKS TOPS, I WOULD LOVE THAT BETTER!

FWJess I was a bit worried about the steep angle on the stairway of that coop? For the little peeps at first that is. Is it just my imagination?

Thanks, that's a great point. Firstly, they won't be allowed out of the top part until they're following mama well, around a week old. Second, I can either modify the slope easily by putting a brick or concrete block down, or I'll not glue something grippy to the ramp. I'm going to buy it this evening so that I can have it by the end of the week. My 8 4.5 week olds are starting to not be very happy in the brooder and I need to rearrange things just right....hooray for a new coop!

I keep b**ching about wanting to get rid of my kids' swing set so that I have room for a real coop and run, but today I realized something--I won't be able to swing with the chickens anymore! They love it, they go limp, their legs stick out and they lay their little beaks down on my arm. It's so sweet <3 I tried to get a picture today but I got pooped on, twice. I've been bragging that I've never once been pooped on since owning chickens, but they got me today. Ginger, Halle and Leila all had sweet little naps on me this afternoon.

How about turning the swing set into a coop yard? You can have both then.

Was out cleaning up the Tower of Solitude so I can put some D'anvers pullets in it while I build their long-term housing and realized that what I thought was Deary talking to me in her social voice was, in fact, a Bald Eagle about five hundred feet straight up; ridiculous voice for a bird that big.

I couldn't get a pic of the second black/wheaten cross.... She was snuggled in the back for a nap

I could use my own personal Tower of Solitude about now!!!!

Y'know, I've always thought that exact same thing about a bald eagle's cry. Sounds like a stinkin' songbird!

Oh, and thank you for the pictures of the winning birds. GORGEOUS!

And another benefit of hanging out on BYC...I won a game at a baby shower last week! It was a contest to see who could give the word for each baby animal, and I was the only one who knew that a baby turkey is a poult, and a baby swan is a cygnet. Indeed, even my spell check doesn't know "poult."

So, see, this is not time wasted!

I have absolutely no beef with anyone trying to sell something. I've never seen ANYTHING that I think qualifies for a reprimand! I AM a little annoyed that if I inadvertantly hover my mouse in the wrong place I suddenly get a full page ad for toilets, however. To me THAT'S what's offensive!!!

And why toilets? Really. Are we all going to see an ad and think, "Wow. That toilet on that annoying hover ad looks so much superior to the ones I already have. I think I'll run right out and buy me one of those." Now, if they made toilets for chickens, and they had a way to teach chickens to use them, well, that would be worth it.

UGH!! So much to catch up on when internet is down a couple of days. I skimmed, so didn't absorb much. Congrats to all with new babies!! Terrorbird- So sorry for your loss. Got a lot done over the last few days. Mowed a LOT of lawn yesterday, cleaned the coop out. I went in to stir the shavings and found a clump of starter glued to the floor where the water had gotten knocked over. It was well started toward mold, so the chicklets got all fresh bedding. I used the old shavings in DD's horse paddock, to try to soak up some of the soup. We shall see.

Farmin Momma - I wish you were a bit closer to me. I would love to give a home to a chickie. Or 2. Or 5.
Quote: That is brilliant!! That would be perfect for my Silkies, when I get Sirius some ladies.
