thanks to ninetreesmom for seeing if our banty eggs will hatch in her incubator. She said the 7 day candle showed so far all 10 eggies going good. The kids are like -->

So who knows what craziness will occur on 14 day or hatching!

:) I love this thread. Thanks WA peeps.
That's awesome!

So, anyone on this thread plant their (small) yard with forage for their chickens? I'm on the Peninsula, so need to think perennial or annual that doesn't mind the wet. The other problem is that basically this entire town is a giant sand dune (was, many moons ago) so the only 'soil' is imported or comes from chicken poop. We just got started this spring, so don't have a lot yet in the way of litter to scoop out there.

The one thing that comes to mind is clover... but then you can never, ever really be rid of it. Thoughts? Was hoping for something I can tractor birdies on, but also let patches grow to fruit in the summers and harvest seed and pack up dry forage. Hubby is dying to make a home-made 'straw' baler. I have HORRIBLE luck with sunflowers. I had thought millet, 'cause it always grows so well around the feeders, but the feed store supplier shot me down. :-(

Should I ignore 'em?

Good Questions! Wish I knew the answer, but I'll be VERY interested in what you come up with. I'm going to be re-working my former garden area to be both people and chicken happy, so I'm keeping my eyes and ears open. Right now I''m checking into elderberry.

My chicks are here...finally! I have been waiting since the 6th of June for her to hatch out. She was so protective this time I had a hard time getting to candle which ones were good and bad, so she basically sat on all of them...sigh! But all in all I ended up with 2, last hatch I only had one chick...and here they are

Congratulations!!!!

TotalColour:

You've been baking??? Tell me more....
I went on a bit of a bread binge when the temps were down. I did spent grain, cheddar, buttermilk lavender, and rosemary. I just LOVE this stuff! I've been doing half of each batch as dinner rolls, it sure makes having a little bit with dinner a lot easier.

p.s. Think of you every time I watch my Barnie girl. Do you think you'll get this breed again?

I can't swear here, can I? Because I feel like swearing. I lost another one of the Hamburgs: Maggie was dead of a broken neck, I think, crashed down at the bottom of the door to the coop when I went out this morning: no missing feathers, even, her feet in fight position and her head down and loose.

I guess I could just put up a string of big red asterisks, that would express my current state of mind, so:

*** ****** ***********!!!!!!!!!!!!

Does that help?

Well, no, actually, not so much.

Not even after adding the exclamation points.
