Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Yippee ! My back is getting better.slowly, so I guess I have not injured it permenently~
Still have not heard a peep from my Doc as far as what the X-rays showed, if anything.
I hate that....sometimes (usually) his office does not contact me at all unless there is an issue needing to be dealt with....so like I get a blood test and wonder/worry for weeks IF I am anemic or not, and after a month I figure I guess not or he would have called..........I just hate that.
I think they should take a few seconds out of their day and at least call & say tests are all good.....but they won't, they won't 'say' anything, they expect me to make an appoinment, and go back, (another $150.) and sit in the exam room, then ask the doc IF my tests came back OK...then go home.

Ok enough ranting.............sorry.

Computer seems to be behaving for the last few days.....good.
Now, I am gathering syringes & vaccine & giving shots to a unruly batch of popcorn chicken (named so for their habit of popping all over the brooder) and then over the fence they go into the big chick house that has an outdoor run.
Get the little chick brooder cleaned out & ready for the next & LAST hatch.
Have a great day peeps !!

So... who here might be going to show or see the poultry exhibit in Puyallup this year? We'll be there on a TH, F or Sun, not sure which yet... Also, there's the NAPA show in Richfield in October... anyone else going? I'm trying to hunt down a Heritage breeder I can bend an ear on in person... and it would be fun/give more reason to go, if any of ya'll are heading there.

CL... so glad you're feeling better! When the weather is pretty it's the pits to be in pain.
I still have an older computer sitting here with no screen. I know it has more memory than you said yours does -- it might be able to get you through until you get something new. If you're interested, let me know.

howdy.

my family is just joining the backyard chickens craze and seem to be a little late in the year to get chicks from the local feed store.

our coop (a variation on the purina mills plan) will support about six hens and we have settled on Rhode Island Reds plus some Barred Rock.

the problem we are encountering now is that most places will only ship 15 or 25 chicks at a time. does anyone know of a place that has those breeds now? or does anyone want to split an order?

thanks.

Hi there and Welcome! This is a good place to ask questions!

You might want to consider buying from local people rather than feed stores or mail order. They aren't really known for supplying high quality stock. And if you have children and want nice friendly birds, you might rethink hatchery RIRs their disposition is quite a bit different from the heritage birds.

Hi everyone,
Thought I would join in and try and make some more friends. I'm out in Quilcene WA and this is our first year with raising chickens. I was told this would be one of the best places I could be for getting help, friends and all that.

Friends you will make here. They are so nice they let an Oregonian hang out and chat. Haha. Feel free to ask away and many of us can get most any bird you are looking for.

So I need a little help. A few weeks back my neighbors dogs came over and killed a few of my chickens. I have never been so mad and upset. I had warned them several times to keep their dogs on their side. Yet they ignored it and now I lost some of my flock. I have several laying Hens and I am getting only an egg a day, maybe two if I am lucky now. I need help with trying to find a light Brahama hen for my six year old son. The dog killed his "lucky6" and was the only one we had. He chose her for his birthday this past May. He has been heart broken over the loss and I can't find another anywhere near. I am desperately looking for a new Lucky6 for my son. It would mean the world to me to find him another that looks just like his old one. I know it wouldn't be the same, but to have him happy with another pet chicken would make his day. If someone could help me I would appreciate it.
