Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Bleenie, I would see if the rescue can arrange a vet exam and ask for a skin-scraping to check for demodectic mites (wouldnt worry about your dogs since it's related to individual immune systems). The poor dear's skin looks terrible. Bless you for taking the time to help him! Wish I was in a position to help!

Bleenie he looks like the old style boxy faced English lab...call the local vet as well, and check craigslist =) Good luck finding his home or a future home!
That's what I thought - but he has some brindle going on (at least it looks like it from the pics) so could be lab/boxer. Nice looking guy, I'd take him but we just got our lab/mastiff so no room. Such a shame, nice looking boy.

I though so too until I realized it was his skin problem and not fur coloring.
All of my pups have the white chest, a "birthmark" of sorts, they received from their uncle who is a purebred papered lab.

I know I dont have room for him, I have 4 older labs already.

Hey neighbors, I am going to post here about this in hopes that someone might be able & willing to help this guy. He was recently dumped on our road and has been petrified of everyone that's tried to catch him. Well, today we were able to get him to come to us and as soon as he could, he jumped into the car.

He looks to be some type of bully breed mix, maybe bull dog(not the little kind), Not fixed, he's all chocolate/liver with a small white patch on his chest. He has some kind of skin allergy going on but it's calmed down a lot since we gave him an oatmeal bath and good scrubbing. He's very affectionate, want to be right with you all the time, great with the baby & has obviously been around them before. He sniffs the cats then ignores them, is submissive with any other dogs he's been around so far but wants to play SO bad! He does have some separation anxiety when left outside or when he was left outside of the coop(have a video of that time!) he met the chickens and was slightly frightened of them but didn't act interested in them or bother them while off leash in the coop(supervised). He knows some basic commands and LOVES going in the car. he mouthed a toy but wasn't really into chewing it, just wanted to lay with it. That's about all I know about him so far.

I am not able to keep him or foster him because im currently caring for my grandmother who is going through cancer treatment and we also have a male dog aggressive dog at home. I e-mailed a rescue earlier today but they had no fosters available but asked if i could foster if they took care of vet & food expenses. If someones interested I can send you their direction for more questions.

Here's a few pictures,Coop video is available by text but i have another on my facebook(i will try to add here though). He's a VERY sweet dog,his previous owners probably just didnt understand what was wrong with him or didn't want to spend money on fixing the problem :(

Looking at his teeth he still looks like a baby.

Hey Bleenie. I probably should NOT be saying this, but are you anywhere close to Port Hadlock? We have a 10+yr old neutered lab mix who's a sweetie, but the *right* younger dog to play with would be lovely. We almost adopted his 'room mate' at the same time, but I decided that potty training my child and a dog at the same time would NOT be a good thing. And said puppy was adopted shortly thereafter by someone else, and the kids have never let me forget it. They tell me Hunter is "lonely"... which he kind of is, if we leave him alone for more than 5 min.
PM me if it makes sense.

I want to add that he does look a lot like the hunting labs my friend had in how he's built.

Have you taken him by the vet to see if he's chipped? Not likely with the condition he's in, since anyone willing to pay for chipping usually will pay for care of the animal.

Nowadays, if you adopt from a shelter, they usually come 'pre-chipped' - it's not all that expensive anymore. And I've seen people drop 2k on an animal, just to let it languish and say how "badly behaved" it is when all they do is ignore it. People are special. They can range from Mother Theresa to Pol Pot (or Assad, as the case may be). And live right next door.

He's intact so I didn't think he was from a shelter. Most fix them. And yes, I've seen some of the crap people do to animals.

I don't understand some people. At the vet, I've watched the vet offer fairly cheap stuff, like the $30 for chipping, and the people just aren't willing to pay anything other than what they are legally required to pay. Same goes for pet food. I spend a bit more per pound on dog food, but they eat a lot less of it, and there aren't any health issues. My GSD doesn't do grains. They make her sick. I can't afford to raw feed, and even the best dog food is a little bit to expensive, but they get a 4 star food and don't eat a whole lot.

My free little barn cats are chipped, fixed, up on shots. They eat a high quality food to keep their health good, and I apply flea and tick control monthly. My two dogs are the same.

The one dog came as a puppy from a high kill shelter that doesn't actually require the dogs be neutered. That is good since he fell off the chair and broke his leg a month after we got him, and the vet's suggestion was to wait a year before getting him neutered so that his leg could get all the growth in that it could. My little cross breed puppy that cost us $150, ended up costing an additional $800. After he got over his food aggression, he's been the sweetest dog.

http://www.wazzuor.com/ <-- where we get our raw food. I mostly buy the rib ends at .50/lb and turkey hearts at about .75/lb. I figure the pork kidney and liver that were about 1.00/lb will last about a year. He eats 1lb/2oz per day. So for me, compared to the 60-80$ for 30lb grain free dog food, a great buy.
Our pup, no one would adopt 'cause he was trained to *eat* cats by the evil aforementioned person who I hope I don't ever meet because I already know how I'd react. Most people have cats, if they have a dog. My cat died a few years ago, and with moving and kidlets, never got around to getting another. Thankfully, or who knows how long Hunter would have been stuck at that no-kill shelter. It's run by lovely people, but a dog needs their person(s) to be stable.
Your home sounds full of love, but, full already :) I hope you find someone to take good care of your new guy. Like I said, we've got feelers out for good companion for our dog. Will take *just* the right one, though. Same person that trained him to eat cats (and birds, and deer, and anything under 20lb that isn't human) also made him submissive-fearful-aggressive toward most other dogs. Once in while he has a friendly interaction. A whole 3 occasions since February. Anyway, back to chickens...
