Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Hello, I am new to BYC and am just starting in my chicken adventures. I am already in love with Orpingtons. I have been looking all over the internet for sources for chicks/pullets. Does anyone know of somewhere local to WA to find them? I really do not like the idea of getting them through the mail, I would rather drive to pick up. In the Tacoma area, but willing to travel 4-5 hours. Thank you in advance for any ideas!

I have BBS English Orpingtons (some are Korfus, some are unknown) and I hatch frequently! I will continue hatching as long as I keep getting eggs. I am in Covington.

Hi all!

Wish I'd managed to track you down at the show. I found budsbirds and my pairs fine, and looked for CarolynF's nametag and the dubiously named FlyingMonkeyPoop (which, no matter how you parse it, just does not sound fabulous) and lurked all up and down the aisles looking for someone who might end up being a BGMatt... no luck. :) You might have seen me wander by - tall, med long dark hair, teal long sleeve jean shirt, belt purse made from a poultry feed bag, with my best friend, very short, dark curly hair, snow leopard print shirt, knee high boots. We always look a bit like we REALLY don't belong in the same room.

Not sure if can go to the Chehalis show, but it would be fun.

Hey, DuckDrover, what was the name of the Orp breeder you were telling me about again? By the time I got home from your house, I unloaded my birds, washed my hands (where I had the note) and passed out. Very nice to meet you by the way...

I have been getting my Korfus hatching eggs from her and they are beautiful! She sells on Rare Breed auctions and she has her own website.

I have been working on getting Sizzle chicks due to a request I had from someone and I have eggs hatching that I labeled as Sizzle when I collected them because I can tell the eggs from my Silkie eggs. They are barely a week old so I have to wait and see how they feather in and then I have to raise them to sex them but at least I am getting Sizzles now. I was looking at an older chick in the brooder and noticed it is getting hard feathers. I had crossbred chicks before I sold my Easter Egger rooster and now it looks like my blue Orpington cockerel has proven himself (my splash rooster has never been with the Silkies). This chick has the blue Orpington color but it also has five toes and feathered legs. I don't know what I will do with a large fowl bantam cross and I am hoping there are no more since I have moved my Silkies out of the Orpington / Easter Egger coop and into a pen with their own coop. Does anyone want a free crossbred chick? I don't want to kill it but I also don't want to keep it. I just bought a bunch of Easter Egger chicks today and I have my own chicks I hatched so I have plenty of chicks that will be Spring layers. We eat the colored eggs and I hatch the Orpingtons and Silkies so I have no use for an Orpington / Silkie crossbred chicken.

The show was great but nothing beats being back home on the dry side! I met a few members like Carolyn, Khunter (pretty sure that was her user name), my mok (infinityheart) met BGMatt, I saw you but didnt get a chance to say hi. I know there are a few other members I met but forgot names. I must admit, the embarrassed look people had when they asked if I was flyingmonkeypoop was pretty great!

I also wanted to say I had a really good time this weekend.
Winning reserve large fowl with my orpington rooster Cee Lo that I hatched from eggs purchased from Pam Watson in Kelso was amazing, since this was my very first show.
Also met some really nice people.
I was not very good about matching people on this site with there names at the show, but hoping to go to the feather fanciers show, if I can find an entry form. LOL Then I will have another chance to find members LOL

Congrats on your win. There were some impressive large fowl at the show. Hopefully we will continue to see large, high caliber large fowl entries!

You can find the show entry and catalog here: http://washingtonfeatherfanciers.webs.com/wfffallwintershow.htm

See ya there!
