Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Hi Cloudseeker!
Do you use anything in your chicken yard to absorb the "stickiness"?? I am fearful for that coming mess!! In Utah, we had lots of worries with weather extremes and winds....here, it's just a new set of challenges to overcome!! The home we moved into had a chicken coop and greenhouse built together, it's pretty decent sized should they choose to hang out inside. I don't feel safe free ranging here with all the critters around (we've seen several raccoons, opossum and coyotes)....but we have fenced the yard in, and then we have a separate garden area fenced again for the run.
Hi, don't forget that even in the city there are hawks and eagles, especially near the shorelines and zoos (Woodland Park Zoo has several rehabilitated eagles that free ones are drawn to visit). eliz

my chicks and turkey poults should be showing up either today or tomorrow. I'm so excited. I hope they show up today :D Haven't got a phone call telling me i have a package at the post office yet though.
pretty sure that is what they'll do when the box is making a lot of noise LOL

If you have them in the same space with your chickens, how much space is it and do they get along?

It's my whole back yard most of the time. But when the weather is bad (snowing) i leave them in their pen which is two kennels that are connected. one kennel is a 10 by 10, the other is a 7 by 17.
But i like to let them free range my whole yard when it's nice. If you keep their wings clipped they wont fly off.
They all get along fine. Chickens, ducks, dogs. The muscovies however aren't very scared of anything. If a predator comes after them they will hiss at it and bite it.

If you would like next time it's nice out i can get a pic of the chickens and ducks together. This time the chickens all were chasing each other for a worm and the ducks were just watching them like they were nuts. so it was a good time to get photos of just the ducks.

And despite people saying muscovy drakes are mean my dave lets me go up and pet him, hug him and stuff like that but i cannot pick him up. I think being picked up scares him. I treat him pretty much like a dog. In the summer he comes inside to watch tv if the door is open.

Good to know. I don't want to have to pen anyone up. Maybe the Muscovies will help keep the German Shepherd in line:lol:

Maybe. I know my dog got stepped on one of the females tail feathers on accident and Dave (my male) went up and nipped his balls so bad that i had to take him in for an emergency neuter a few months ago. he had crushed zeus's balls.
I think Dave thought Zeus was trying to mate his female. so as long as you don't go trying to screw the ducks your male muscovy will leave you alone LOL
