Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

maybe the app doesn't let you post new threads, only respond to current ones??? be worth asking the website about or looking in the faq for the app (assuming you didn't already do this lol)

In the mobile versions, you have to be in at least a sub forum, not in a thread to start a new thread. Upper right hand corner click the icon and it will give you the option

I'm still having trouble making a new thread I am an my phone not on my computer any help?!?!?

my remaining 8 chicks and 3 turkeys are completely healthy. I still have no clue what happened to the 7 chicks and 1 turkey that died. Not a clue at all.
It still bothers me to not know but i couldn't afford autopsy's on them.

On Thursday it will be 3 weeks since I put your eggs under my broody girl. Can't wait to see if any hatch!!!
I hope so! I've eaten a few and they looked fertile but having never hatched any from those hens and their fella I don't know. Sending good hatching vibes your way.

Is the dude an actual vet or will it just be more ignorant panic?
I was able to listen to most of the broadcast and it was Peter Browne aka, the chicken doctor? regardless of his credentials he seemed to speak with historical information as well as what is usually seen when someone may have it. He really didn't say anything that didn't make sense…One thing that could use more research to see if really true is that its extremely hard to remove from Your operation once there. I think i heard that the broadcasts can be re heard. Maybe Jean will comment more.

Just so tired of the blind leading the blind. I hear they are thinking about cancelling the PNPA show due to complaints which makes zero sense since birds over 18 weeks can't get it. But people are so ignorant...

I'll assume since he uses it as a nickname he's not an actual vet then, which is useless.

HI, i appreciated & read Your links & this was my first broadcast to listen to and i think there was an actual vet also. It would be sad if PNPA was cancelled but in their defense, even thou it is rare that anyone has brought anything home they regret, I missed what some of the considerations in dealing with this new outbreak were since this was the first *known* case in Washington State.

I would be inclined to think if You can find good quality information regarding this Disease from Vets, state department & informational sites etc. it would go a long way to ease everyones mind especially how it is passed on.

i read the broadcast can still be listened to if You want to make an informed judgement regarding it.

It shouldn't be a big concern since it doesn't affect older birds (only affects younger than 16-18 weeks) but since it's chick season and such thought it was worthwhile.

I will not be at Monroe, I double booked myself and am teaching a backyard poultry class at a DIY fair down in Vancouver Saturday morning. Next show for me is the PNPA show April 19.
From what I read older birds can still carry the virus but successive generations show less direct mortality from the virus but are less productive and have a higher susceptibility to other diseases because of immune suppression. Like others have posted and even the linked sources state it is very hard to eradicate from an area. While adults may be more resistant and less likely to show outward symptoms, it doesn't mean they are immune from being carriers and spreading it to a flock that is not infected.
