Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Hi There,
There are a few other places if you're ever out and about. Watch the ads for Wilco in Gig Harbor; Drive Thru feed on Key Peninsula carries Excel as does a Redneck Feed at 1871 NE Old Belfair Hwy (they sell at their farm, easy to miss, great people), and Dels has a store in Port Orchard. I generally try to buy feed when I know I'm going to be near one of these places for some other reason. Cenex always seems pretty spendy to me.

What brand are you buying that's in just a 20# bag, that's awfully small.

Love Redneck Feed...good people and they really try to do right by their customers. I get most of my feed from them now. They are doing a special on feed for meat birds now too...they run it most of the summer.

Thought this was worth sharing.

This outbreak alert has been sent to present and former NPIP producers to confirm the diagnosis of very virulent Infectious Bursal Disease virus in Washington State .

WSDA received laboratory confirmation of vvIBDV (PCR and molecular sequencing), in an outbreak affecting 6 week old chickens in Thurston County. I recommend enhanced biosecurity to reduce the risk of infectious disease transmission. This is the first time vvIBDV has been diagnosed in Washington State. We do not know the source of this outbreak in Washington. In California, Dr. Maurice Pitesky (University of California, Davis, Cooperative Extension poultry specialist) has reported that transmission has been linked to exhibition poultry purchased from Craig's list. Information on vvIBDV can be found at the California CVMA and WSU AHFS lab facebook web sites below.

Sincerely, Lyndon

BGMatt, thank you for copying the actual Alert. I hope they will eventually let us know if it was found at a commercial/small/hobbyist farm. I saw another message from them saying they would not be taking birds to the Monroe show.

On another topic, are you going to be taking any of your birds to Monroe this week? I'm interested in seeing your Langshans and Leghorns.

It shouldn't be a big concern since it doesn't affect older birds (only affects younger than 16-18 weeks) but since it's chick season and such thought it was worthwhile.

I will not be at Monroe, I double booked myself and am teaching a backyard poultry class at a DIY fair down in Vancouver Saturday morning. Next show for me is the PNPA show April 19.
