Do not sit in a chair with a sandwich in your hand....then answer your phone and let your arm/hand with sandwich hang over the side....why you ask? Because the Cream Legbars will stroll up from behind and peck the sandwich and you jump and let go of the sandwich and then they descend upon the sandwich like wolverines! They knocked over my rootbeer and some drank that as well....

Moving onto our property, DH had no where to sit & eat without "Chicken for Lunch" LOL

I know my kids will love to try this.
Crazy enough, we hatched out some Maran x Australorps and one was crowing... a teeny, tiny crow...at just 8 days old!

I thought my kids were just pulling my leg until my son caught him on video. He is now 2 months old and crows with the big boys every morning.
His tail came in more than a week before the others so I watched the second hatch and sure enough there is another with a tail while the others have none. I am guessing we have a second cockerel. He has crowed only once and is 11 days old.

OBTW~
My mother used to get a kick (unbeknowst to me) of sitting on the patio & letting 2 of my hens sip her martini, at cocktail hour, way back when I was a preteen, and off horseback riding.
Then I'd come home to 2 very drunk chickens & my parents hysterical !!
The birds loved the martini & apparently Mom has confessed to how they used to fight over the olive...

Anyone on here who wouldn't mind going from the Oly Pen to Renton or Carnation and back on behalf of DeltaBluezTess ? I am trying to get her a pair of Spitz, but well, it's giving me fits! Ha! Also, transport back for a pair of Rhodebars... I could pay in chicks, or eggs... send me a message if you are making a run out this way soon... I'm often in Poulsbo area, less often Bremerton or out Kingston way.

So my Gold laced Wyandotte is definitely a cockerel. He gave me a few more test crows this morning. I have to eventually get rid of him. If anyone knows someone who's looking for a cockerel let me know (does such a person exist?). He's 7 weeks old right now. I live in North Marysville but could meet someone halfway.

I'm still relatively new myself to chicken keeping. But I wanted to welcome you here. I'm sure others will pipe in on the particulars of chicken keeping in the northwest.
I've one small tidbit. I was told that breeds with feathered feet wouldn't do well in the rain. But we've got three Brahmas in our flock and the rain hasn't seemed to hurt them one bit.
