Hi There and Welcome!

Tell us more -- what breeds are your little ones? If you have questions be sure to holler.

I have three chicks. Just starting this adventure. Interested to know what is the best material for the coop floor and run floor.

Welcome new peeps!

I use rubber stall mats in my coop. On top of them are pine shavings. Cheap, absorbent, easy to clean up. In the nest boxes I use timothy hay. I found the hens like hay best and it does not stick to the eggs like shavings do.

Welcome!

There are many options. Sand, wood pellets, pine shavings, straw, bark, or pine straw are some examples. I use shavings in coops and straw in the runs. Many others prefer sand. I don't have a cover on the main run so sand won't work well for me.

Here are my two new kids. We got a new cockerel last weekend. He's 8 weeks old but should grow up to be a beauty. The black pullet is a rumpless BCM olive egger. Despite being advised against rescuing chickens, she was a rescue. She has a bad leg but is getting better and is learning how to walk/run again. She does not know she's a chicken. Every evening she comes up to the back door and walks into the house so she can sleep in her cage in the family room. Very sweet girl, but I hope she learns to socialize with the other pullets soon.

They are very pretty. And I'm sure you'll be glad of a hen that is super friendly. Until she constantly flies up on you when you bend over. I have a couple like that.

You need more cockerels?

I have a bit to go before these boys are big enough to eat. They are such greedy guts, though.

So I've decided that I'll be taking the five EE pullets to the swap next month. They'll be 4 months old then. I just have to many chickens and need to reduce it down some.

If any one has interest ( or knows anyone) in working on this project - https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/827543/silkied-ameraucana-project , I have four 10.5 week olds available. One blue and three splash... two are silkied feathered and two regular. I can meet or deliver most places North of king county. Thinking I have two pairs but I am going to say straight run to play it safe.

I have decided to just concentrate on Favs and JGs.

How much do you want for your pullets? I really don't need anymore birds, but I would love to have some Easter Eggers. You might be able to sell them all by advertising locally and then you won't have to spend your time going to the sale.
