Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Hello, I recently joined BYC, but have been lurking on and off for over a year planing out my jump into raising chickens. I am in Washougal, WA. My 7 chicks are now 7 and 8 weeks old, (one turned out to be a Cockrell). I have 2 Barred Rock's, 2 Golden Laced Wyondottes, 2 Marans and a Light Brahma. "WAVES" I'm practically down the road from your super beautiful coop and pretty little girls Just finished the coop a couple weeks ago and got the chicks in their new home and they seem happy. I have found so much good information on this site, I don't know how I could have built the coop with out all the good ideas I found here, so Thanks!

I had a rock that did. I thought for sure she was going to die. One night it was bad enough I decided to cull her the next day. Of course the next day she was looking much better and kept improving. She didn't lay for about a year. This spring she started laying again. If I carefully feel her belly, it still feels like there is something in there.

I've had three others die from it, though. One when she started laying, other two were well over a year. All have been hatchery birds.
Thanks for your reply.
Do you remember which antibiotic that you administered? I want to hit this the best I can to give her the best chance possible.
Also, did you do any draining?

I just gave the Duramycin in the water because that is what I had and I didn't know where to find anything else back then. There are stronger antibiotics out there. I didn't drain any. I don't know if I could do that. I have an issue with needles. Gave me fits to vaccinate chicks for the first time recently.

Great, that's what I'm using.
I thought I could drain but my DH had to. I couldn't do it. I thought I was going to hurt her.
Now that I saw what he did, I might try it the next time. She didn't even flinch; no cry, nothing.
I appreciate your insight. I helps to know what other people have dealt with.

I hope your bird makes it. My best wishes to her

I totally got my ducklings last night. They are totally adorable. The lady in Everett that I got them from has loved on them a lot. The small 3 are 4 weeks old, and the bigger 2 are 6 weeks. I got to meet both of their moms, and the dad was a few yards away hanging out with his other ladies. They all have the blue eye gene, and it looks like it's definitely expressing itself in at least one of them. Hoping for a grey and white one coming out of the group. They seem to be fairly well-socialized for having been raised by their mothers. They will take peas and kale out of my hand already. They're not too keen on being held yet, but we will get there!

The dogs desperately want to eat them.
