Wow so sorry.

I'm not sure, but it could be lots of things. Humidity, temperature, genetics, luck of the draw....

Hopefully your other 18 will pip and zip soon, and healthy!

I hope so Margaret just haven't had any luck hatching :'(

Did You open the bator every time you checked on it? I used to, now from the 19th day to the 3rd day of the first chick actually hatching i leave alone unless someone is in trouble.( upsets the humidity). I use the styros and move eggs off the turner so no one can get caught on anything. For whatever reason your chick became tired, it should have zipped within 12 hours of pipping. Humidity can either drown or lack of glue the chick inside. I would add some water and leave the bator alone for the next 5 days and hope.

Somewhere here there are articles on how to be more successful….Time of year, type of bator, where it's located etc all affect. I have given up trying to hatch in the summer. As hens go broody i give them any eggs that i hope to hatch….They grow better that way too. Good Luck

hi,
No i didnt open the bator until i knew it was gone. and not till i made a visual check for no more pips (did not want to shrink wrap any others. :( I had been adding water in the bator through the vent hole to try and get the humidity up but it is refusing to go past 55%. I have a bowl of water as well as wet rag but it will not go higher. I have read and reread the articles i could find and am trying to leave it alone. when I removed the babe i replaced old water bowl for new water bowl so the water was fresh and warm.
My son looked at them and said that he thinks one is dancing around in the corner but of course when i looked it was still. I am not sure what more to do to get the humidity up. I have a pitcher of water in the room with a heat lamp on it to try to bring the humidity in the room up as well.
I wish i could put eggs under a broody but i do not have one

We have a dozen eggs under two different broody hens. I'm going to let them do the work and that way if they don't hatch I can't blame myself. ;) It is too hard to wait and watch and then have something to wrong. My little Roo isn't doing his job yet so I had to buy eggs. They are mixed batch so any chicks will be a surprise. Hopefully by this time next week I'll have some new babies.

I wonder if your hygrometer is misreading the humidity?

I could never get the humidity temp. right so don't even have one to look at….just know that in spring, in the spare room, all works, but never works anywhere this time of year…Ok, when all is over crack them open and let us know…

Hi, i have never had good luck with humidity gauges…I just add water once a week and let it go at that. maybe too much water? After a week when all should be done….crack the eggs open. some may be clear or several stages of development. If to hatch and haven't, let us know and maybe we can think of something. Could even be too much water…especially if added as they were hatching…Has there been any major weather changes??? real warm to real cold? dry to wet? is the bator somewhere that temp can have big swings????????

Wish i could find the article thats out there about how this guy started, think its dry hatching….uses water but is different. He talks about his learning the biz.

I have 2 margarine containers that I guard with my life cuz they work 100% everytime, perfectly.
No other combination works, crazy, huh ?
That is in my hatching bator, home made.
The incubator I use is a gQf, which has a water tray hooked to a 5 gallon bucket, which I fill up and can GO TO HAWAII for 2 1/2 weeks and when I get back I still do not need to add water, but usually by week 3 I do~~~~~~~~~~HA HA

If you have room, you should get the gQf water system, it is super !!
I'll come back & post links.
