That's an awesome idea! Will chia grow outside? And, can chickens eat it?
Chia is great stuff! I don't know about its hardiness outside, but it's definitely edible...I used to grow chia pets in my dorm room and eat the sprouts, they're a lot like alfalfa sprouts but more nutritious...really good on sandwiches :D.

This means that I finally remember the story from last year or years correctly.

It's is amazing what a good nights sleep will do for the memory banks.

LOL Last night it was all I could do was recall that Cheryl was the person that had told the original story, but I could remember any of the details. Sleep is a very good thing.

Ugg no kidding right! Last night was the first good night of sleep I have had sence the time change. Its amazing what one hour can do to someones schedule. Not sure why you couldnt sleep, but thats my reason. lol That and the 6 month old baby girl. lol

Yep I was the one with the original story about the two elderly rescue horses.

So, long week, and little time to talk and a dearth of braincells: Ruby has some sort of problem which is leading her to need outside every other breath, where she wanders around and peers at things and then wants back in the house. I'd ignore her except for the certain knowledge that it's less annoying to get up and let her out than it is to clean up after her the one time she actually has business outside.

The Hamburgs are finally looking less naked and miserable. No eggs from anyone for days and days, alas, and still have three too many roosters having to do with my gross inability to make any more phone calls after two pointless days of phone tag having to do with farming stuff. In ten minutes I need to get up and go slask blackberries from across the path down to the corral, where they slow down and complicate putting the cattle in no end.

All this virtuous hard work has whacked my back and shoulders and hips, and y'all don't want to listen to me whine any more than I do, right?

Oh: about counting animals: yesterday I decided I needed to make sure all the cows (15) and calves (14: the biggest bull calf was weaned two weeks ago) were out there, as it had been a couple of days.

Yeah, right: I went out to the corner of the orchard, where I can see the NW half of the 40, and there were cows and calves everywhere, from the very top of the hill to the low point by the gate, and I could only come up with 25. No body was making any noise, so I neglected my standards and went back to work in the yard. During calving season counting cows and calves is the most important thing I so; yesterday it was more idle curiousity, but I'll tell you: counting any number of animal greater than three, in any size area greater than a crate, can end up taking all day.

I've never grown chia but wheatgrass does fine in all conditions except a serious freeze and, obviously, drought.

So I would like to know if anyone breeding Silkies has any fertile eggs available. My wife fell in love with silkies at the Clackamas CO Fair. I would like to get 2 eggs for her. Color is not important. Just not looking for any Silkie mixes. I would be willing to drive an hour away from Oregon City. If anyone near me can help me out please PM me with info and cost. I really want to surprise my wife. She knows we were gonna get them in the spring but I was not expecting a broody so early, so it would be a great surprise. We were planning on letting anyone that got broody hatch eggs so we have continuous flow of eggs and meat birds. She just loved how soft the Silkie was and how friendly too.
