Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

not sure where ironsdale is dont think have heard of it :) what kind of chickens? :) that be kewl if we could meet at the ferry :)

Well, the hens I have who are laying are Australorps, Orpingtons, and mixed Australorp/Orpingon. Toosters I've seen mating are Orpington, and one of the Black Jersey Giants is also mating. I thought the Jersey Giants had started laying, but no... not yet. Probably not for a couple weeks.

Irondale is right next to Port Townsend. So, it's super easy to get to the ferry from my house. :D

But I missed how soon you would like fertile eggs, and if you're willing to pay. The mixed eggs, I don't mind giving away. Purebred Jersey Giant eggs - if I sell them this spring at all - will not be free. Probably not cheap, either.

ohh you sharing popcorn? :) Good day hope everyones day is going well

Mine is going well! Hope everyone else is having a good one too!

Just made egg curry with my girls' eggs! Everyone told me hardboiled FRESH eggs were easier to handle and boy were they right!

We just had a short weekend getaway, and since the Orp chicks (aka The Skeksis) still weren't big enough to go out to the big coop, we had a chick sitter come and check them twice a day. I felt silly asking someone to chick sit, but they often spill their food or manage to do something to their water bottles. I feel comfortable leaving my 4 hens for a weekend as they have a large run. Haven't taken a proper vacation in a while and we're due, so...

I'm curious what everyone does for their chickens when they go on vacation...

It may sound strange but if I have eggs incubating or chicks in the brooder I won't go anywhere for more than a few hours. I live in an area with a lot of power outages and I always worry I'll lose power while I'm gone.
I've actually slept in my car all night long with my incubator plugged into a power converter with the car running to keep power to the incubator.
Luckily I had a broody hen who sat on the chicks in the brooder while the power was out.
I just missed Thanksgiving dinner with my parents because I had Ayam Cemani eggs in the incubator. I know I'm a freak but my family accepts it

I purchased 7 gallon waterers and 5 pound feeders for each of my pens. I only need to top off food and water every week or so in my pen that has 22 chickens in it. My smaller pen of 6 Orpingtons and my pen of 9 Silkies will last up to 2 weeks before having to add more food or water. It give us the ability to go away for a weekend and not have to bother anyone (other than to feed the horses lol). My chicks are set up in a huge brooder with large containers of food and water as well so I can easily go a week without having to add any. I just check on them to make sure no heat lamps have gone out or anything. :)

Then I'm a freak too! lol Everyone teased me but I just wasn't comfortable leaving them without someone to check on them. And if Im honest, I'll probably have someone come check on the girls in the coop/run when we go on a longer vacation. If they could pull their own roller bags, id totally take my girls with me!
