Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Laughing... so we are only about 5 minutes drive apart.  We will have to get together.  You didn't happen to be at our garage sale on one of the two past weekends????

I'm happy for you neighbors! I'm glad I brought up that book. I hope you and your families become good friends

We didn't have any issues. I'd never removed the tarp that I put in front of the pens last fall to block wind. I found it makes a nice sun block too. It wont survive another but should be good for another couple months
We got hit very heard here, with gusts up over 50 mph...which wanted to lift off the portable car port we use as a patio, despite the tie downs.
We folded up a few tarp covers over pens, and tie them up like boat sails.
Other than that, and horrendous waves of rain, we are fine, birds & other critters all fine.
Power flickered 1 or 2 times...but never went out.
Kinda fun to "hunker down" and snuggle up on the couch all day with my cat~
A good excuse to take it easy.
Einstein was out in the storm a few times working to catch rain water in the tanks....all in all, we are LOVING the return to our wet weather.

Oh, and be careful of tarps with chickens: I have had tarps begin to fringe, where their strings are hanging down, and chickens ate the strings, usually wrapping around their arrow-shaped tongue and then they dangled there like a Christmas ornament...I had to cut the strings off the bird's tongues.
That was a long long time ago...and since, I make sure if tarps are beginning to shred, toss them out !

I haven't read it. But I live pretty close to where it happened.

Betty McDonald was here a short time, and never really "fit in" with the locals. There's still a teensy bit of resentment here about the way she portrayed a couple of local farm families. She and her husband had no idea what they were doing, and it shows in that book.

That said, the book was the inspiration of all the Ma and Pa Kettle movies, and later the TV show Green Acres. And here in the Chimacum Valley really is Green Acres! :D
I used to Love Ma & Pa Kettle movies !
Weren't they just a kick in the head ?!?

I am thinking I have canned my last batch of Bread & Butter Pickles for the season.....the wind storm knocked down half of my 20 feet of pole beans...but they were so entertwined they all stayed together like a big blanket (a big heavy wet blanket !) so after wards we pushed the broken pole back up & shored it with braces....the beans are fine.

The 15' tall sunflowers are not so lucky...they are either broken by the wind or lying down, so the chickens & birds are having their way with them now.
I wish the rain had helped more in Eastern WA than it did !

So far this year, we have gotten 31 pounds of green beans off the pole beans...and they are YUMMY !!!

The sweet meats took alot of wind, and due to their huge leaves, some vines blew over sideways but they are fine....

This squash is planted in the compost pile....and is about 30 feet from farthest squash tip to farthest squash tip...and some have twined around the little trailer....off to the far right...

Now you know why I stake a few sprinklers in the mound where I planted the seeds....

Glad you are fine…know the coast and inlets get hit the hardest…..every major road, highway and freeway near me had trees down, fine here except for power out for almost 2 days. i have never had chickens try to eat tarp but have had them get the strands also hay strings wrapped around their feet…..

Funny, I had my Silver Cuckoo Marans Cock & hens out for free ranging yesterday & the Cock kept "face planting" so we netted him & he had kite string wrapped around 1 leg & spur, and wrapped over to the other leg...where the kite string came from is anybody's guess !

I have been a total laz lately, for the last 3 weeks or so...I do not wake up til about 8 AM, then exhausted so I take a nap from non to about 4 PM, then in bed asleep by 9 PM...very strange for me to sleep so much....
I tried to not take a nap Monday and was so tired by after dinner I went to bed at 7:45......

Weird, huh ?

Also have a bit of rash here & there, so I am suspecting my lovely auto-immune system is acting up...

I'm sorry to hear that. My mom has MS, and I have fibro, auto immune stuff blows. How is your vitamin D intake?

I take lots & lots of supplements.
I have Celiac Disease, Livido reticularis, Sjoren's, Hashimoto's, Raynaud's....and have skin involvement from time to time like Drema graphia...and localized sudden onset scalding (as if someone had tossed boiling oil on me!) which can heal almost as fast as it erupts, and then sometimes (rarely) I can wake up to a discoid rash...(at first I could not figure out how I could have 'caught' ring worm all over my entire body ????)
These discoid rashes each occured after a trauma, like when I fell/slipped & tore my knee out...
Putting 1 + 1 together is still pointing at Lupus...but I have yet to go get tested.
I am at a doc's or hospital like 1 X a week and I am sick of it.
Next time I guess I get the ANA test for that.
I have not looked it up enough to know if the disease goes undetected if it is not in 'flare'...so if it is unactive (dormant) I may not have antibodies to it ?
Not sure.
