Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Booch & steelie for my dinner ! Einstein is gone to CA again, so me, the cats & the fleas have the whole steelie to ourselves...I should smoke most of it, but its raining out & I am being lazy...we'll see how the weather is tomorrow, maybe I'll go get some alder or maple & smoke this fish...

Beautiful fish. Shame to smoke a steelhead. We filet & freeze. Where was it caught?

OOOOOWWWW Chantrelles! Yummy..... Great in spaghetti and scrambled eggs. We also love cut throat. Yummiest fish there is, I think.

You can also sprinkle Sevin in the dogs bed and on rugs. Leave it down for several days or a week even, then vacuum it up. We used to use that prior to Ivermectin on the canaries. We would put a tablespoon or so of Sevin in a paper bag, add the canary then give it a couple of shakes. Canaries get lung mites so the idea was to get them to inhale the Sevin. It was so nice to move on to the Ivermectin. It sounds, however, that you are trying to stay on the organic side of the table. Good for you! You have my best wishes.

We found that Frontline no longer killed our fleas. Oh it worked for about 3 days, then voila'... dogs were again crawling in big fleas. We went years with no flea treatments and no fleas. That day seems to be gone as last year, the fleas were back. (They do come and stick around when the weather is warmer.) These fleas were in the house, but not outdoors, and much more importantly, not on the group of them in the dog runs. I treated just around the back and front doors, and, in the house three times over a couple weeks and the fleas were pretty much gone.

Ok, so my 2 indoor cats have come down with FLEAS !!!!!!!!!!!!!

HOW >??
The dog is outdoors, but gets Frontline ALWAYS and has all his shots & stool samples....no fleas or parasites~~~~~~~~~
The dog NEVER comes in the house, either.
So I figure we must have picked up fleas at someone's house we were visiting, and brought the fleas home ????????????????????????

So, cats have had Top Spot, and I vacuum every single day & dust mop the hardwood every day if not twice a day...and so far we humans have no bites.
BUT, I found flea eggs & poops on my computer chair, my art table chair, the couch sleep spots the cats love...the window sills, and their bedding...lots and lots of eggs, and that does not include however many zillions were on the floor and/or carpets.
I vacuumed again.
So now I am thinking of steeping rosemary, making a tea, and spraying everything but that would only repell...
So, any recommendations from anyone of something I have not done yet aside from the flea bath (I will not do that to these cats, they will KILLME!) please let us all know what YOU do to KILL fleas on your carpets & furniture.
Okee Dokee ?
Fleas become resistant to the topical flea treatments over time.

For your house and carpet, sprinkle a powdered cleaner such as borax on the carpet. The powder acts as a desiccant and will dry out the flea eggs so they won't hatch. I leave the borax on for 24 hours and then vacuum it up.

I use Advantage on my cats for fleas. I've found that the fleas (at my house) don't die off as well with other products.

I don't have carpet. I use advantage. We don't have flees, unless I forget to use the advantage. I'm allergic, I notice then quick. I've treated my lawn with a flee killer in the past and flee bombed my house at the same time. I'm doubtful about how chicken compatible those chemicals are.

You can use dog Frontline for chicken mites

I second the Borax on any carpeted area, leave overnight at least and vacuum up. If you can, have the cats bathed - since just the soapy water will help to dissolve the eggs (I wouldn't do a flea dip with chemicals to any of my animals). Next (or first if no bath), good flea comb and comb, comb, comb until the fleas and the eggs are gone. Keep a cup of water with a squirt of dish soap in it to quickly put any live fleas in before they jump on you, the floor or back on the cat. I hope your cats tolerate this, but if they don't, work in shifts. I have done this with my dogs but haven't had to with my cats - they had been treated with Advantage (I think) but really don't go outside like the dogs do. Make sure you wash (or sprinkle Borax on) any bedding, including yours if they sleep on your bed. You may have to repeat all this until they are gone but it will work. Good luck!
Weird how neither I nor Einstein has seen any fleas on ourselves & we have no bites.
I did the borax yesterday afternoon since I have several big bags of it for salmon eggs & taxidermy......messy stuff, I hate the grit on my floors !
We have a hardwood floor downstairs, but has accent carpets...upstairs is carpet throughout, except the bathroom.
I vacuumed late last night, again this morning, cats are traumatized over all the vacuuming !
I washed the cats bedding yesterday & again this morning.
So far, there is no way to get fleas off Amy...her fur is so thick & long 1
Easy to see them, though, on her white parts.

Sissy, Amy's sister, is a tabby...and wants nothing to do with either me or a brush...she is Einstein's cat !

Canaries in a bag ? That sounds so funny ! Didn't harm them ?
The dog here, has his own 'suite' over in the barn, in the room with all the canning & stored winter squash.
He has no fleas & gets regular Frontline.
He is not allowed in this house cuz he is a doofus, he freaks out on hardwood, and he freaks out in a house...weird, I know.
He loves his own digs.
Daytime when the chickens are let out of one or another of the pens, the dog is cahined up outdoors with them, and his own big dog house.
If he is not in his suite & attached run, or chained, he runs off & chases car /truck tires. He is socially challenged, and NUTS!!!
He bites, he was a rescue, and he is good for guard dog or junk yard dog, and that is all !
He even snaps at me !

I did exactly that !
So far, no more signs of fleas or eggs
