Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I vote that if you ever can get a roo, you should get a choc orp roo so we can get some choc eggs/chicks from you.

I'm kicking myself because when I bought her there were two pullets and one rooster! Anyway, it's probably all for the best because they were probably brother and sister.

My Chocolate Orpington has been giving me an egg every single day even though it's now December and we are down to 9 hours of light per day!  Her eggs are light brown to pinkish and they are medium size at this point.  I don't know if they will get bigger or not.  She's been laying for a month now.  My others I got from My Pet Chicken and are 12 weeks old so I won't see how they lat until around February or March probably.  I did get an Australorp from them and she is soooo sweet!  I ordered 10 from them.  One died on day two, a Buckeye, it was very tiny and just not strong.  One thing I'm happy about is that I ordered all girls and I got all girls!  They say on their website that they have a 90% accuracy on sexing of chicks.  I was prepared for one rooster but I didn't get one!  I don't like how the other hatcheries put in "packing peanuts" of several roosters!  My Pet Chicken lets you order as few as 3 chicks for our area after January 25th.  I wanted 5 chickens but I wound up ordering 10 thinking some may not make it or some might be roosters.  Well 9 made it and none are roosters!  Doesn't matter, I'm so glad I ordered my "extras" (chicken math).  My extras are my 3 Andelusians and they are SOOOOOO cool!  I thought they would be unfriendly and flighty like I had read about and that's not the case!  My Splash Andelusian "Duck" is my friendliest most outgoing of the bunch!  The Australorp is the most docile and even all the other chickens love her.  My Choc. Orpington I bought from our local feed store at Point of Lay so I could have some instant gratification on eggs...she has not disappointed! The difference between buying the POL and the chicks is the relationship.  My chicks I know and they know me and trust me.  The Orpington is slowly warming up to us but still doesn't really trust us.  But the other side to that is it will probably be easier to put her in freezer camp when the time comes versus our "babies" that we have raised from chicks!

Welcome to the Washington Thread!

I didn't know you could order so few chicks from My Pet Chicken. Can you order just one of each breed? Say 1 of each plymouth rock, buckeye, Ameracauna, Australorp and Welsummer? That would be cool!
