Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Greg, that article you posted on the increase of celiac disease is very interesting. I've wondered about how many people buy GF because of it's "fad status". I find it disturbing that so many more are being diagnosed in recent years. That diagnosis is done by blood test and biopsy of the small intestine so there is no faking that! I do truly believe it stems from the "advances" in agriculture. I don't believe our systems are meant to digest so much grain, but then the "experts" say that needs to be the greatest portion of our food everyday. The old food pyramid was basically the formula used to fatten up meat animals!!!!! I feel that Earl Butz, Secretary of Agriculture in the 70s, and his "get big or get out" policy has kinda screwed us up by shoving grain into just about everything in the grocery store.
I keep thinking about my dad telling me how he, on multiple occasions, saw his mom eat bits of raw hamburger while she was preparing food and NEVER got sick from it. Of course, that meat was from pasture raised beef living off food it's system was built for.

My grandma told me she used to do that all the time!!! I couldn't believe it, but now that I know a LOT more about our food as it is today, compared to back then, it all makes sense. Sad.

Well it is official I know which turkey will be feeding my family this year. I will probably have to butcher both of the boys because our really nice one has injured his leg and I don't want him to suffer. But our mean tom just began attacking me again and I went out to get eggs from the coop and he attacked me, got me good this time. Ripped open the leg of my pants

!

In better news, we will be putting an offer on a house today! Wish us good luck because apparently a lot of people want this place but we are the first of the bunch to get approved for it. The property is only 5 acres but it is ALL usable. Take a look.....

This is the 5 stall horse barn! and in the trees on the right is a two car garage!

This is from the lower part of the property where my chicken coop/barn is. There is DH running away from me and my camera lol.

Just another view of the horse barn.

The right side of the coop/barn that will be covered again once I move in.

Isn't this awesome?! Two seperet sides. Right is about 7 or so feet tall.

House is actually a double wide manufactured home but to me does not look like it.

The last three pics are part of the pasture.

Thought I'd take a pic of our lunch...that the kids specifically requested today. They opened the fridge and chose all this stuff! LOL Everybody is now chowing down and I wouldn't be surprised if I need to find even more for them to eat. Glad my kids like to eat healthy :)
That is soooooooo cool that they love that stuff!!! We started out good with our daughter but with the two of us working full-time we slipped into "easy eating". Ugh. Now I have to hide veggies or cut them so small that they (DH is a veggie hater also) have to eat them! We've been better since I've been home full-time but after I get the junk cleared out of the kitchen IT'S ON!!!

My DH had just been released from the UW after his second liver transplant and needed to go back for a recheck a few days later. We had to be there at 7am so I was outside at 5 am in the dark feeding horses. One of the horses must have mistaken me for another horse getting too close to her food and felt her get ready for a kick. I would have gotten out of the way in time but tripped and she caught my head on my way down. Broke my glasses and had a nice bloody gash on my forehead and across my eyebrow. I ran in the house and DH tried to put iodine on it from the swabs he brought home from hosp and I kept trying to tell him you are not suppose to put iodine on cuts that need stitches. He wasn't listening. I had to physically keep pushing his hand away. He still had not recovered in the brain part as it takes awhile for the new liver to clear out his system and it was getting quite messy. I called the neighbors for help since I didn't know what to do and how to get DH to the UW and me to ER. It all worked out. A friend took DH and the neighbor took me to ER. Quite an eventful early morning to say the least.
That wasn't recent was it ?? Hey at least he didn't put rubbing alcohol on it!!! Been down that road. NOT FUN.

So everyone is talking about Vitamins and what they take. Here is my daily diet..: I drink 2-4 cans of diet coke everyday, eat around 6 of those bite size candy bars a day. Have 2 chicken sandwiches on bread with extra gluten in it and get about 4 hours sleep a day. two hour nap when I get home and 2 hours before I go to work at midnight.
Every year when I go in for my annual physical my doctor says. "everything looks GREAT, keep up whatever your doing"

YEAH BUDDY That's the diet of champions !!!

Wow, ya'll have had so many head injuries! That really explains A LOT

. All joking aside I am glad that ya'll came out of it ok. I my self have never had a head injury as an adult, but my boys have gone threw their share of stitches, staples and skin glue on their noggins.

I found out why I have only been getting 3-4 eggs a day.
When I was out with the chickens today I happen to find a large clutch of eggs. 17 eggs to be exact. I know they are fairly freshly laid, but can't be sure so instead of eating them or selling them I cooked them up for the chickens. THEY LOVED IT! It was the first time I have done that.
Now that I have found their stash, a few of the girls ran right into the coop to lay in their boxes and I have about 7 eggs in there right now! Little turds.

Can't remember when ya'll said the show is, I really wish I could go but everyone that is going should have a lot of fun (and ya'll should have some fun for me too).
Hope you guys have a great time!

Is it worth it to put in a waterproof surface over the floor of the tiny coop I bought for quarantine? Or should I just paint it? I was planning on painting the interior anyway, but I'm tossing around the idea of putting in some FRP or linoleum. Does anyone with more experience have an opinion on which I should do?

Jennifer
