EAGLE QUESTION

How can you tell if a bald eagle is checking out your flock or just passing through? I just ran out from my house when I heard them calling and chased off a pair who were circling high overhead, but wouldn't they be quiet if they were planning to attack? I don't know!

Why did you give away five of your barred rock
Simply put I had bought 16 barred pullets this spring, then decided I wanted some
EE due to good luck and Gena I have 9 of them now and 4 olive eggers I picked
up. I felt I had over populated my coop too many pullets all growing up fast.
I really like my barred being layers through about anything but had more of them
than the others and was not giving up my EE group.

From my years photographing them in all aspects if the pair is circling for kill
they will talk except on the dive

Well my broken leg chicken is still alive and kicking, and the crazy broody is still sitting even after we moved her nest. I THINK there was 7 under her yesterday when we tried to count. There is only one egg under her that isn't hers, so I'm hoping that hatches! Everything looks pretty BR ish so far, so the brabanter hen would at least put a mohawk in the mix. LOL!
Good to hear miss broken leg seems to be mending

These are sooo cute and tempting. Tiny bantam Welsummers!

It's really hard to resist, but no babies allowed until next month.

Good luck with all the broken legs (!) going about. Do they usually recover?

This is my first broken leg in the 6 years I've had a flock, so I'm not sure! Luckily it looks like a clean break with no complication (not compound and I didn't have to set it) and she is a young healthy pullet. I'm hopeful she will pull through, but will cull of she starts going down hill. For now she is eating and drinking, clear eyes and very responsive. She is getting around using the splint and her wings to balance, so she is just stuck in isolation for the next couple weeks!

That makes sense. I wont be adding anymore, i have my limir now. Someday i will get some breeds to add some colorful eggs.
FUI. No guarantee u wll get blue or green from the ER. My EE lay green, pink and brown.
Oh well.

I've been looking up clear plastic tarps. They are really expensive. Where have people found some good ones for a decent price? I don't mind paying for quality but $180 seems ridiculous for a 10 x 12 park.

That's pretty cool! It doesn't happen often, but I seem to hear about one of these maybe once every year or two. The most unusual part is having a yolk in the inner egg. I don't even get double yolks, let alone double eggs.

That white egg looks pretty darn BIG. Is that from one of your project birds? Did you happen to weigh it?

The egg inside and egg we had before was a fully formed egg inside of the huge egg, yolk and all in both. Only had that happen once though in the 5+ years we have had chickens.

The white egg is one of the parent stock birds of my project birds. She is 3 years old and still rarely ever takes days off of laying eggs and lays massive eggs. What people have said about hatching over sized eggs is true, the hatch rate certainly suffers. I only had 6 or 7 of the 10 eggs set hatch from this bird on my last set. Her off spring on the other hand had 12 for 12 large blue eggs hatch however. Some of my project girls are laying eggs that rival hers now but not all, most are just large not XL blue eggs.
