I like spitz type and herding type dogs. I've been told I should only get a shelter dog. No. They don't have what I like. There are some rescues that scoop them up before anyone has a chance to adopt them, then want you to go through more hoops than to adopt a human child. I tried to get a schipperke from a shelter less than 24 hours after they posted him. Oh so-and-so rescue took them. Rescue wanted to much info (like SS#) so they could do a background and credit check (which we would have to pay for). Oh and the random home visits for the expected life of the dog. And the adoption fee was double the shelter's. Oh and they would pick the dog they had they thought would be best for you. Not what you wanted.
Yeah. It really put me off rescues.
We're looking at getting another young dog/puppy but not in a hurry. I keep an eye on that shelter down by mom where we got Zeus, but we will probably end up buying from someone.
Wow, that's a pretty self righteous rescue there. That's insane. I got my first dog at the pound, had her 17 years. She was a cocker spaniel sheltie cross. We think

my second dog is a springer lab cross that I got out from the newspaper and she is 15 years old. No kill shelter's are a joke. And that's what makes the other shelters "high kill". Meanwhile people are breeding dogs like crazy and Celine months for hundreds of dollars.
