Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

My neighbors got a new puppy, a husky. They asked me if I wanted to hold it, stupid question! She is absolutely adorable but I could tell that it was very young. They said she is a month old and she is the last one left in the litter. All the others had homes already. Absolutely insane!! Who the hell would sell off all their puppies at one month old? Idiots! I hope this puppy will be OK, well socialized and well-trained and as my dog trainer friend used to say "stable". But another month with mom and puppies would've been good for it.
a month?

I have to ask a very odd question here please ... I went out to lock birds up blue calls them in about dusk
I have the three outside cats we care for feed clean water access to my old shasta trailer..
lock birds in... I made changes that there are no high nesting boxes now.. the roost a 6 ft long table from crates
is thew same height as the nesting boxes I have 6 two groups of three 6 birds where on the one set of
nesting boxes all the other girls where on the table Blue not in sight I heard a small noise from the end nest box
the group the girls where not on shined my light in it was Blue in the nest box?????????????????

Duke would sleep in the nest box when he was depressed. It's comforting I guess

They learn so much from mom and littermates. Athena was 8 weeks when we got her and could have used another month with mom. Zeus was 16 weeks but at the shelter with his litter for a couple days. It's a high kill shelter. We should have taken another one as well. He's a perfect dog.

Sometimes I check out the local animal shelter site. Tonight there wasn't one single dog up for adoption that was not at least part pitbull or Chihuahua. How irritating is that? They said one was part mastiff, yeah right. Pitbull all the way.

I like spitz type and herding type dogs. I've been told I should only get a shelter dog. No. They don't have what I like. There are some rescues that scoop them up before anyone has a chance to adopt them, then want you to go through more hoops than to adopt a human child. I tried to get a schipperke from a shelter less than 24 hours after they posted him. Oh so-and-so rescue took them. Rescue wanted to much info (like SS#) so they could do a background and credit check (which we would have to pay for). Oh and the random home visits for the expected life of the dog. And the adoption fee was double the shelter's. Oh and they would pick the dog they had they thought would be best for you. Not what you wanted.

Yeah. It really put me off rescues.

We're looking at getting another young dog/puppy but not in a hurry. I keep an eye on that shelter down by mom where we got Zeus, but we will probably end up buying from someone.

I have an American Eskimo/Schipperke mix from a shelter. She's about 19 now.
I also have a cattle dog/pitbull mix and a Boston Terrier/Golden Retriever mix who looks like a small boxer.

Wow, that's a pretty self righteous rescue there. That's insane. I got my first dog at the pound, had her 17 years. She was a cocker spaniel sheltie cross. We think :) my second dog is a springer lab cross that I got out from the newspaper and she is 15 years old. No kill shelter's are a joke. And that's what makes the other shelters "high kill". Meanwhile people are breeding dogs like crazy and Celine months for hundreds of dollars.

Im on a dog selling group here on Facebook for entertainment value mostly. The things get ridiculous. Crossbred dogs for several thousand dollars and the parents never had the health checks done that should be before breeding from those breeds. Average price of a german shepherd on there is 1500. No hips or elbow certification on parents. "But it's AKC" but not from ancestors who have been shown.

For that price I'll go to the working german shepherd breeder and get one. Their breeding stock has been tested for known breed issues and they give a health guarantee.

Athena came from a backyard breeder down by Mom. Not registered or certified joints, but at 300 the price didn't make us choke.

Zeus was the shelter puppy. Australian shepherd and blue heeler mix. He was 150. And then another 1000 after he fell off the chair and broke his leg.

I was looking for another schipperke after my old girl died at 16. The boy died from cancer at 10. I would still get another.
