We picked up some rodent traps today. Will take a while for these to work. Keeping the dogs off them is the issue at the moment. Whine, whine whine. ("I want them")

We're back and had a nice time at the auction/dinner. My DH got an award for his generosity towards the people at Keller WIlliams which was quite unexpected and touching! We bid on a few things at the silent auction that we didn't win, bummer! But we also bid on the gluten free cake there and won it, which we shared with our table. It was the best darn gluten free cake I've ever tasted; in fact, I think it was the best cake period I've ever had! Good thing, we won it for $125!

It was for a good cause so we were happy to be there spending money though. Thanks for the compliments on the photo, LOL. we got some better ones with the DSLR I might share tomorrow. Overall a great night and I was thrilled they had gluten free dinner options from the caterer and the cake was quite a bonus! Time for bed, night all!

Oh and one more hting: all my birds seem to be doing much better now that they're on Corid full strength and have been dewormed. I hope nobody comes down with a strange illness for a long time now! Thanks all for your wonderful help diagnosing my birdies. You're amazing people!

I'm so glad I got to talk to you, at least: I was having a very bad day yesterday, pain-wise, and was fretting about DH, so was pretty stupid and distracted.

Have I sent you my phone number? I meant to give it to you yesterday but, again, I get deeply stupid when I'm in pain, and, am, indeed, in that shape much of the time these days!
I am way to understanding of how pain can mess up a person's mind. CL can tell how well I was doing at last March's show. I function so much better when I have taken enough pain pills. At this point all I can ever hope for is that the pain will be kept at a semi manageable levels. It hasn't been working very well for the past couple of months or more.


I did get your number, and I will try to give you a call in the next week or so.

The Hoboe Beans with Ham hocks is gone, so time to make a new pot of soup.

We have a pot of soup all the time, this time of year.

I moved the Chantecler.....and so now the Cuckoo Marans have a double coop all to themselves for their growing numbers.
Nice to have more room when this time of year they spend so much time indoors during these storms.

So who got Julia Ellen's WallFlower from the show ?
It was in a half gallon black pot ?

And thanks to CR for getting my cookie tub & table for us so we left early...we both can only stand around for so long & knees/backs & hips start to complain loudly !!!

JB::: Einstein wanted to steal the layered dip...it is his favorite and I had to promise him I'd make him some today !!!!!!!!

Now the weather dude is saying 50-60 mph winds here.......................better than gusts to 100 anyways........

I have the Wallflower at my house. I will make sure the Julia get it.


I am happy the Einstein like the dip. I just had some of it for dinner tonight. I looked up a couple of recipes online, and then did it my way. I didn't put in a layer of green onions, because a) I don't like them myself, and b) I didn't have any. I thought there was just enough onion in the dip, with the Pico de Gallo layer in it.

Pet owners concerned after dog that attended Puyallup Pet Expo dies of parvo​

If you attended the Puyallup Pet Expo with your dog on Nov. 3-4, watch him for signs of illness. A case of parvo has been documented in a dog that attended the Expo.
The organizers of the Puyallup Pet Expo confirmed on their Facebook page on Nov. 13 that a dog that was at the expo a few weeks ago died of the illness.

The Expo reported the outbreak on their website, saying "At this time, we do not know the circumstances of exactly how the virus was contracted or when, but we do want to let the public know as a precaution. We sincerely hope this is an isolated incident and no other dogs will be affected, but your pets’ safety is our top priority.

We make every effort to make sure the animals participating at our events are healthy and, as we find out more about this incident, we will be reviewing all of our procedures for next year’s event to ensure the health of the pets are never in jeopardy. We will also notify you if more specific and pertinent information comes to our attention."
Northwest Boxer Rescue reports on their Facebook page that they were at the event, and the personal dog owned by one of their volunteers died from parvo after being exposed at the event.

Northwest Boxer Rescue said all dogs were supposed to be up-to-date on vaccines and the Expo event staff was supposed to cross check records, but that was not done thoroughly.

A commenter on the Boxer rescue site noted that last year, the public was not allowed to bring their pets but rather, the event was meant for people see what pet options there are, to be educated, and to possibly adopt a new pet.
Other commenters said there was no way to be certain that the dog contracted the virus at the Expo since the incubation period for parvo is between 7 and 14 days.

According to PetMD, parvo is a highly contagious virus that affects dogs. The virus is transmitted either by direct contact with an infected dog, or indirectly, by the fecal-oral route. Symptoms of parvo include bloody diarrhea, lethargy, anorexia, fever, vomiting, and severe weight loss.
Officials with America's Family Pet Expo were not immediately available for comment.​

The rescue cannot blame the Expo for this!! It seems that the dog that died was unfortunately NOT current! If he/she was an adult and they had no records when they obtained the dog, it should've received 2 rounds of vaccine within 3-4 wks of each other before being exposed to public places. Puppies under 16wks really should stay at home (that is usually when the vaccine series is over and Rabies has been given by then). It would be nice to know where the vaccines for this dog were obtained. I have seen a dog that was given feed store vaccines by it's owner come down with Parvo. This is problematic due to some people in the store not being educated on how vaccines should be handled. They must immediately be refrigerated. There have been cases where the boxes have been left sitting in the storage room.

CL, I hope you haven't blown away or happen to be floating down mini rivers!! It's blowing really bad here right now. I'm glad we got most of the leaves taken care of already!

My Silky babies are 11wks now and still seem so small! Our Silky roo (whom we still ADORE Shyla!) is getting very ansy to be with them. We take them outside to stretch their legs (with us standing next to them) and he will not leave them. I have to play top roo, though, as he does not realize (or maybe doesn't care) that they are too young to play house!!!

Well...

hopefully, we don't have a power outage tonight - the wind is blowing and I've got eggs in the bators. Looking forward to the hatching process the 2nd time around. Hopefully, we timed the hatch right so chicks will be hatching on the day of my son's birthday party. That would be cool!

We had a wonderful time at the chicken show. We came late, and missed a few of you - that was a bummer. My daughter had a Girl Scout event to attend where she toured the theatrical dept. at the local Community College, learned a dance number, and performed in a mini show at noon on Saturday, so we left for the show much later than we hoped.

Nikki99 - I'm glad I got a chance to sit and chat with you. It was nice meeting you. And, thanks CR for helping me track down some hatching eggs. I bought a super cool "Urban Farmer" sign from him, and the kiddos bought care-free chicks. CR does beautiful metal art.

I came home and looked my chicks over for pointy feathers. Blackie is definitely suspicious for already having those. We'll see how they develop. The suspicious feathers are pretty tiny. It looks like Latte might, too. BUMMER! What I don't get - I don't see a single sign of any pointy feather on the big chicks - the ones I pegged to be boys the day they hatched because they hatched with defined combs (Cocoa and Rocha). They're probably a Salmon Favorolles/Cuckoo mix, and they have large combs that are already turning red at 5 weeks. They are huge compared to Blackie and Latte. They look fully feathered. But I can't find a single pointed feather on either of them. They are also the flock protectors - both Blackie and Latte hide behind them any time I open the brooder. Can Cuckoo mix chickens with large combs and lots of attitude be girls? I run a shop vac over the top of the brooder when I'm cleaning the sand - and today, the little crazy Rocha was doing everything s/he could to attack the vacuum. I was waiting for that moment where s/he stuck his head too close to the suction. Thank goodness he didn't!

Blackie finally figured out how to fly up to the edge of the brooder. No more leaving the brooder top open while I'm cleaning. Although, it was pretty funny. The kids immediately broke into a chant "Go, Blackie, go! Go, Blackie, go!"

Well, I'm headed to bed. Hopefully I'll be able to sleep and not stay awake worried about power. G'night all.
