Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

OMG! They are just so gorgeous. Look at all the different colors and patterns! You're not going to get diversity like that from plain old hatchery birds.

Thank you Junebuggena! I love them all already. Just so sad that some of them are cockerel and I'll have to let them go. Topaz, my second hatchling is crowing (since 7 weeks old!). Here he is:

The male is not mine. I bred our 2-year-old female to him (two successful ties so far). She had an accidental litter of puppies before we got her so she is not new to raising puppies. I want to keep a daughter and then we will probably have her spayed after this litter unless there is a shortage of LGDs and people need them. I should be able to get my stud fee back out of the pups and keep the pick of the litter as a companion for her.

Our Anatolian is over 10 years old so she will not be around much longer and I don't want the Great Pyrenees to be lonely. She is far more bonded to us than the birds but she does protect them. She is good with cats but fortunately our cat is the only one that knows (they sometimes share a bed) while the strays are keeping their distance.

HELLO, new to BYC. recently bought 5 acres in Graham. we are up to 5 goats clearing out the blackberries and a coop of chickens (3 Turkens, 2 Black polish, 1 white polish, 3 Black copper Marans, and 1 Polish/Wyandotte cross--maybe)
We named our little Hobby Farm, the Green Roof Ranch (we have a facebook page to go with it).

ISO a few Blue and Green egg layers, Cayuga ducks, and Bourbon Red Turkeys.

I am afraid I would be interested in a male but believe it is wrong the wrong timing
:hit

If there is a shortage of LGDs in the area we could do it again in the future if we keep our female intact but it is a costly investment with no guarantee of the outcome. I definately don't want mixed puppies so my watching her heat was more about preventing pregnancy but hopefully it will work out to have her bred. If she had not already had puppies I would have had her spayed but I would like to raise a puppy to keep with her for constant company. I love working dogs but I think it is hard for them to feel particularly bonded with birds and we no longer have goats or sheep. That may change in the future but for now we have to make due with what we can afford.
