Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

CL I'm glad I got to meet you as well. You were also on my "People I really wanna meet list". I wish we would've been able to chat more but I know there was lots to see and it was a bit crazy at times.

When did you get to meet her? I know you hadn't met her yet when we were chatting in the barn. I was carrying around 7 lilac tree starts for her.

Sorry CL - I really wanted to meet you! If you want the starts, you'll have to rustle 'em from the Chicken Rustler!

I can always collect new ones for you at a later date, too.

Ren, I'm so glad I got to meet you and your family! It was great being able to sit down and visit for as long as we were able to. My kids had a blast playing with yours, I'm pretty sure it made the whole day of looking at birds worth it to them. Lol.

I'm so glad your kids were there. By the time we went out to the barn, mine were whiny little butts. They had fun playing with your kids - that was the highlight of the day for them.

I've got so much to catch up on here, but I'm going to turn this computer off. We're having power bumps - one after another.

If we lose power, it's makeshift incubator time with Little Hotties and my pockets. When DH gets home this evening, I'm going to stalk him until he brings out and sets up the generator so all we have to do is run a power cord through the window to power the incubators up, if need be.

we don't lose power!

I'm glad I finally got around to securing 1" cage wire to the inside door of the coop. The big girls finally have little cups with food and water hanging on the door inside the coop. Right now, they're out in the run squawking to be let out, but I can't because the temporary fence keeps blowing over. If they were smart, they'd go inside the coop and enjoy a dry meal instead of standing in the puddle called a chicken run. Obviously, they're not that smart. Silly birds.

I'm sorry I missed the show - missed seeing all my buds and meeting new ones. Oh well, next show.

Hope everyone's keeping dry and safe. I'm in the kitchen cleaning, disjointing and vacu-sealing ducks (himself offed 20 yesterday) so I'm pretty busy but not wet.

Only 18 more ducks to sell (anyone want some tasty Muscovies for the holidays, if not, they go to Yardbirds on Saturday. One can only eat so much duck, no matter how tasty it is!

I've got two hens I'm trying to sell... one I'm sure is a red laced blue wyandotte... the other was supposed to be the same thing but is much lighter... anyone know?

DARN! I forgot the calla lilies Christine brought to the show for me!

I just now remembered I was supposed to pick up Crocosima; the humming birds will be angry with me.

At some point, I am going to come to visit with you, so I will bring you some Crocosima bulbs then. I have a large clump of the bulbs, and my plan is to divide them this year.

We can also start planning a plant swap for the next show in March of 2013.

I'm so glad I got to talk to you, at least: I was having a very bad day yesterday, pain-wise, and was fretting about DH, so was pretty stupid and distracted.

Have I sent you my phone number? I meant to give it to you yesterday but, again, I get deeply stupid when I'm in pain, and, am, indeed, in that shape much of the time these days!

I am way to understanding of how pain can mess up a person's mind. CL can tell how well I was doing at last March's show. I function so much better when I have taken enough pain pills. At this point all I can ever hope for is that the pain will be kept at a semi manageable levels. It hasn't been working very well for the past couple of months or more.

I did get your number, and I will try to give you a call in the next week or so. :hugs

Great!

I just came in from securing storm damage, and being reminded, once again, why my Dad wore rain pants and a heavy mackinaw in this kind of weather: a raincoat is stiff, hard to work in, and channels cold water down your neck and into your jeans.

I'm in to dry out and check the weather radar. I still need to do one more imperfect (copper tube on galvanized iron, best I can do right now) fix on a water-collecting surface, but I also have to get hay for the sheep, et'c.and am looking for a gap in the clouds, or at least for green instead of orange on the weather radar.

Don't think the elder spawn is going to make it over on Thursday, somehow, and his sister has to work.

I think they stole that line from 'Little Big Man' with Dustin Hoffman. Anyone remember that movie?

Yup: Dan George was in it, too, my favorite part!

"It's a good day to die" is Hanta Yo (which finds its way onto motorcycle leathers, too). But a lot of people know it from Star Trek, where the Klingons use it.

(Edit: Before hallerlake catches me on overlooking it: those are definitely Klingon bandeliers those turkeys are wearing).

Note on the Barbu d'Anvers kids: there's a lot to be said about tiny, tiny chickens with tiny, tiny poops.

I moved them into a bigger container today, since it's going to take me an hour or so to cut wire for the porch-pen and I just soaked myself to the skin in forty minutes of pen-repair. If I were brave I'd make them a window box so I could watch them grown, but it would be wrong, right?

I was finally able to sleep last night! Slept 9 hours. I was long overdue. Finally broke down and had a little help but it was worth it.

One thing I heard helps you fall asleep is to count 1 as you breath in and 2 as you breathe out. The intention is to distract you from all the busyness and stress in your mind and changes your focus. Kind of like counting sheep but that has never worked for me and I think this is different as you are doing the counting with your breathing. Also, you can lay on you back and starting with your toes imagine them relaxing and slowly work your way up, and make sure you relax your face and jaw. Sometimes I start out doing that and find out I've tensed it up again!
The counting breath thing I will have to try sometime! I did learn about tensing and relaxing each muscle individually from my physical therapist and it does work!! Sometimes it's just that the brain won't shut off, even though it tends to fail when I need it!

HOW SAD AND TRUE IS THIS???

I've got two hens I'm trying to sell... one I'm sure is a red laced blue wyandotte... the other was supposed to be the same thing but is much lighter... anyone know?
She is the same breed. I had two that were very light. They sure were broody girls!
