Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

I was out in the rain for under 5 minutes. I fed the chicken, and the horses and was soaked in that short amount of time. SO glad I dug trenches early this year. Now its a matter of keeping them all clear and flowing.

DH had to dig a trench this morning, the pen was a veritable lake. I set up to short pails with a 2 x 12 plank on top for the girls to get up out of the water, but I think they just consider it an obstacle that "The Crazy Lady" stuck in their way! Dumb birds!

Good thing DH was willing to dig a trench in this downpour or they might float away!

Hey... it was really nice meeting everyone on Saturday. It's been really hectic around here since I got home, and we were out of town again on Sunday so I've only read some of the posts; can't comment on much. Thank you all for trading plants, and the sugar scrub, and a lot of food, laughs and smiles. It was really great. I look forward to the next time I can meet up with you. My BFF Debbie really had a good time too. She's had some rough times for quite a while lately and it did her a lot of good to "commune with the chickens" and be treated so well by so many nice people. She's hoping to hook up with some of you that meet in Lake Forrest Park occasionally. If Kim or any of the N. Seattle folks could poke me in the ribs when something's being planned that would be a big help.

This is a busy week for everyone, so I'll say Happy Turkey Day now in case I don't get back in time later.

Take Care Everyone!

Hugs,
Carolyn

Public Service Announcement: Please ensure your children are safe in the car!
Nope, not when the car is moving. Nope, not about car seats. But have you thought about the general safety of your vehicle in relation to your young children? I keep being reminded by real life events that cars are dangerous, and not just in an accident!
First, keep a pair of scissors in your car! This ladies young daughter almost strangled to death from playing with seatbelts :(

Also, one of my good friends had a major incident with their vehicle and their daughter. She's 3 and had been told, like the other 4 kids, to go get in the van and buckle up for AWANA. Instead she opened their car and got in the drivers' seat, put hte car in gear, and the car rolled backwards down the driveway, across the street, and through the neighbor's garage door. She's was unharmed but imagine the damage and how scary it was!

Please people, supervise your littles in and around vehicles at all time, they can be deadly even when not in motion.

Quote: I have had to use the detour before. Always fun. But I have noticed since they put the new drain tunnel in at 74 it hasn't flooded.

Quote: Maybe they need to change them from PM to Non-Public Supervised Chat.

This is what happens when your drain field is saturated.

And here is my XC award winning kid.

Aw, congrats to your son! I ran XC too, but only JV and only my senior year! I wanted to stay in shape all year. I swam all 4 years though :)

Thanks. He will be the #1 runner in his district next year and in top 15 in the state. Crazy kid. He is already starting his training for track season. That is why he put on the time trial this last Saturday and why I missed the WFF show. Horrible conditions, rain, wind, 44 degrees out and non-race mentality and missed last years PR by 1 second(got a 9:53 for 3k, PR is 9:52)

OMG, just got home from taking my son to work. Taking Key Pen backroads we came upon a sign that said 'water over roadway' placed about 10 ft from the actual water (hello people who put the sign there). Well, wasn't going to slam on my breaks and we have a big truck so we went for it. Blamo! That was soooo much fun that on the way back, even though I had been warned, I didn't slow down. Bwhahahaha! What the heck, you only live once. OK, CR, I'm sure you will give a lecture and burst my bubble but IT WAS FUN!

Cut up bacon into bits and cook it crispy in the stockpot. Remove bacon and pour off grease.
You can cook minced onion, celery, and carrot in some of the grease at this time if you wish to add it for more flavor, those stay in with the potatoes.
Add cubed potatoes and just enough water to cook them. Cook until potatoes start to dissolve in water.
Add milk, cream, or both to taste. Cream gives better consistancy.
Add bacon back in plus salt and pepper to taste.
If it is to runny, mash up some of the potatoes with your spoon.

I prefer ends and pieces bacon for soup since it's usually thick chunks. Russet potatoes work best, need floury not waxy potatoes. Cream makes the best soup. It really doesn't take that much.
The base soup is just potatoes cooked in water then milk and salt to taste added. You can add anything else from there. Ham is very good in it, too. I've had it with several meats regularly growing up, hamburger, buffalo burger, sausage, deer and elkburger.
Shredded cheese is good added in.
Putting bacon, chives, cheese, and a bit of sour cream in is good, too.
I don't have exact amounts when I make it. Great Grandma made it this way and it was just passed down
I don't make it very often because we tend to eat to much of it. It was a staple a few times a month when I was growing up. Hmm, I was a skinny thing until I left home. Maybe we should eat it more often.

Thank you, Thank you!
It sounds like the potatoes are what my mother would have called over cooked since they are starting to fall apart? And that's the body of the soup and everything else adds flavor and/or creaminess, right? It's hard to wrap my brain around the idea that soupy potato mooosh is the base of a really yummy soup. lol Obviously I'm a slow learner especially since when asked what one foot would you take to a deserted island, the answer is always potatoes!

I'm going to try to make this after Thanksgiving when things quiet down a little.
