Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

So the computer died during the night. Shut it down last night and it wont start this morning. I'll have DH check it out tonight. The power supply seems dead. It's 11 years old so that's not a surprise. He'd built a new one that smoke checked the power supply a few months after building that took out the video card and I think motherboard with it.

DH can get the other comp up and running. I think it just needs the OS reloaded now.

So it's phone for now.

My silly chickens are out in this weather! they've got access to their nice dry coop but are braving the pouring rain and wind to hang out outside... grant it most are under the coop attempting to stay dry but why not go in??? Silly chickens!!
None of mine will go outside! They stay inside all day and poop and poop and poop! As far as the horses, they stay in their shelter same as the chickens and poop and poop and poop! plus the horses pee too which is way worse. So much more cleaning in the winter and such cruddy weather to clean in!

Hey all, I made it to the show after all! Left birds at Enumclaw auction and kept on driving south! Was so nice to see all the old peeps and some new ones I really enjoyed talking to! Especially Nikki, you are so sweet! Really enjoyed meeting you. And Carolyn, nice to meet you too and talk about growing. I guess I must be the first home? Got home about 3 pm. Needed to get the animals tucked in for the night before dark so I snuck out. Such great friends I really enjoy. Another great show and meetup.

CGC it was so nice to meet you! I really enjoyed visiting with you and look forward to future shows where we can hopefully meet up again!

Not enough LF Americans...not enough LF at all................I guess I can blame myself in part for that.............

CL it was great to meet you too and I totally agree, Hinotori's soup was the best!!! I already copied her recipe and can't wait to make it!

So, here are the new birds!

Black silkie from Marjorie Best. I had to prove to my husband that she had a beak and eyes, lol. When I got home she was passed out cold in a heap of fluffy feathers and he couldn't find a face in all of it.

White crested Polish hen. I love her! I really really hope she is as healthy as she looks:

Jennifer

Omg Jenn, your new babies are adorable!! I almost did it...almost cracked and bought silkies at the show too. Congrats!

JB it was great to meet you too. I love being able to put a face with a name!

We picked up some rodent traps today. Will take a while for these to work. Keeping the dogs off them is the issue at the moment. Whine, whine whine. ("I want them")

Awww, adorable!! It was so nice to meet you and your soup was amazing!! Thanks for sharing the recipe, can't wait to make it!!

Yowsa! I'm SOOOOO behind on this thread. I'm way back on page 358.

Well...

hopefully, we don't have a power outage tonight - the wind is blowing and I've got eggs in the bators. Looking forward to the hatching process the 2nd time around. Hopefully, we timed the hatch right so chicks will be hatching on the day of my son's birthday party. That would be cool!

We had a wonderful time at the chicken show. We came late, and missed a few of you - that was a bummer. My daughter had a Girl Scout event to attend where she toured the theatrical dept. at the local Community College, learned a dance number, and performed in a mini show at noon on Saturday, so we left for the show much later than we hoped.

Nikki99 - I'm glad I got a chance to sit and chat with you. It was nice meeting you. And, thanks CR for helping me track down some hatching eggs. I bought a super cool "Urban Farmer" sign from him, and the kiddos bought care-free chicks. CR does beautiful metal art.

I came home and looked my chicks over for pointy feathers. Blackie is definitely suspicious for already having those. We'll see how they develop. The suspicious feathers are pretty tiny. It looks like Latte might, too. BUMMER! What I don't get - I don't see a single sign of any pointy feather on the big chicks - the ones I pegged to be boys the day they hatched because they hatched with defined combs (Cocoa and Rocha). They're probably a Salmon Favorolles/Cuckoo mix, and they have large combs that are already turning red at 5 weeks. They are huge compared to Blackie and Latte. They look fully feathered. But I can't find a single pointed feather on either of them. They are also the flock protectors - both Blackie and Latte hide behind them any time I open the brooder. Can Cuckoo mix chickens with large combs and lots of attitude be girls? I run a shop vac over the top of the brooder when I'm cleaning the sand - and today, the little crazy Rocha was doing everything s/he could to attack the vacuum. I was waiting for that moment where s/he stuck his head too close to the suction. Thank goodness he didn't!

Blackie finally figured out how to fly up to the edge of the brooder. No more leaving the brooder top open while I'm cleaning. Although, it was pretty funny. The kids immediately broke into a chant "Go, Blackie, go! Go, Blackie, go!"

Well, I'm headed to bed. Hopefully I'll be able to sleep and not stay awake worried about power. G'night all.

Ren, I'm so glad I got to meet you and your family! It was great being able to sit down and visit for as long as we were able to. My kids had a blast playing with yours, I'm pretty sure it made the whole day of looking at birds worth it to them. Lol.

Those are great ideas CGC! Sounds a bit like yoga....I loooove yoga!

Quote: I know what you mean. I dug a few trenches this AM. Found out my rain coat needs to be replaced but what dollars? Ugh, going to be a long winter. LOL, might as well do it in the nude! I had a fleece under my rain jacket and was sweating this AM so shouldn't be a problem!!!! LOL Just need a towel when I get back in the house. Wondering if they sensor nude? They certainly feel the need to sensor PM's these days. They didn't used to. It's private! Who gives a rip.

It was so great to meet all the people that I got to meet at Saturday's show! Itsren, CGC, KM, CL, JB, Hinotori, Carolyn and everyone else I got to meet and visit with. I enjoyed our conversations and getting to know you all a little bit. It's so great to be able to put a face with a name.

Hinotori, your soup was amazing!! Seriously!!

Carolyn, it was nice chatting with you, I'm glad we both had time to visit for awhile. Thank you so much for the plants. I can't wait to get em in the ground! I hope you enjoy the sugar scrub.

Whoever made the baklava (sp?), it was so good!! It was the first time I'd ever had it and yum!

CR it was nice to see you again and thank you so much for pointing people out to us and introducing DH and I to so many people. I obviously wouldn't have met so many great peeps w/out your help! I absolutely love the metal work we bought from you!! I can not wait to get it up on the Critter Castle! I'm also lovin the fact that we are neighbors so getting more decor will be a breeze! Oh and that Sweet and Sour Road Kill was awe-some!! I'm gonna need that recipe again b/c that's definitely something that's gonna be brewin in my house! Yum!

Itsren, I was so excited to meet you and I'm so glad we got the opportunity to sit down a talk! Seems like we laughed a lot and I love that! You are so easy to talk to and so sweet. We will have to meet up again, I know we would have a great time! I'm pretty sure our DH's would get along well too, they seemed to have a lot in common, at least where their wives are concerned....*bringing home new animals every time they leave town* Lol.

CGC, I'm really glad I got to meet you as well. There was a handful of people that I told my DH in the car on the way there that I really wanted to meet, people I talk the most to on the forum and you were one of them. I loved talking and laughing with you and hope we get to do it again sometime!

CL I'm glad I got to meet you as well. You were also on my "People I really wanna meet list". I wish we would've been able to chat more but I know there was lots to see and it was a bit crazy at times.

KM, it was nice chatting with you as well. You made me laugh givin CR a hard time about the cell phone. LOL.

I enjoyed meeting all of you, whether we got to talk for long, or not, I'm really glad I got to meet each of you and I look forward to seeing you all again and meeting more of you!! Thanks to everyone for bringing all the great food. It was all so yummy!! I could've stayed in the food barn all day!
I'm shocked I got out of there without a bird...or 2 or 3. Those silkies almost made me fold! I need to do more reading about them though to make sure our bird set up will work for them. Oh and ya, did you guys know there was even such a thing as Bantam Ducks!?! OMG they just might be the cutest things I've ever seen!! I want some!! I'm pretty darn sure that chicken math starts b/c of other peoples birds!! Lol.
Hope everyone is staying dry and warm today...it's a bit crazy out there!

Sooo jealous of those who went to the show!! It seems like most of you had a great time...minus poor, CR! Hope your eye has healed by the time you read this!!!
Jess, you guys look gorgeous! Hope your headache is gone.

To those who posted new bird pics, they look great and at least look super healthy!
CL, I hope you haven't blown away or happen to be floating down mini rivers!! It's blowing really bad here right now. I'm glad we got most of the leaves taken care of already!

My Silky babies are 11wks now and still seem so small! Our Silky roo (whom we still ADORE Shyla!) is getting very ansy to be with them. We take them outside to stretch their legs (with us standing next to them) and he will not leave them. I have to play top roo, though, as he does not realize (or maybe doesn't care) that they are too young to play house!!!

YEAH!!! I'm glad you are enjoying him. He was always a sweetie here.

OK, heading in to town to get stuff for Thanksgiving dinner. CR, maybe I'll pick up some snake oil! Just kidding, or NOT! You got me thinking about it. We started drinking Martinellis for Thanksgiving years ago. We still do it even though the boys are 21 and 23. It's a tradition. I'll just keep the snake oil in my girl cave! LOL
