Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Has anybody here had experience with Andalusian chickens? I've just seen pictures, do they do OK in the cold? How do they do egg laying? I'm thinking about getting a couple new checks, one that lays white eggs and one that lays dark eggs. And that was one of the breeds the feed store has. They also have brown or silver leg horn's. Any experience with those?

I have had both the brown and silver leghorns and from my limited experience they do not lay nearly the size or amount of eggs as your typical hatchery white leghorn. I had a white leghorn x that out laid the brown and silver leghorns. What I did like was their combs were not huge and didn't flop over like the white leghorn so I did not worry about frost bite. They also provided me with some eye candy (esp. the silvers) for the chicken yard. If you want friendly hens, just make sure you socialize them twice as much as the other breeds because true to leghorn personality, they can be flighty! Never had Andalusians, but always wanted to try them.

I'm with you!!!!!!!!!! :D I need my stink'n breeding pens built so I can hatch these gorgeous Ameraucana eggs I'm getting. :drool We just got a little side tracked early this year as I found out I'm pregnant!

Oh congrats! Is it your first?

Yes and quite the surprise! I had been told by many, many Drs. over the years that I would never have children and would need Dr. intervention if we did want children. So, hubby and I were good to just be the 2 of us. Looks like we are shifting gears in life! We are very excited!

I have a tip for you. EVERYONE will try and tell you how to do everything the best way aka the way that worked for them....take their advice with a grain of salt and do what works best for your family and your baby!
