Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

We caught our LGD eating eggs so now I have to come up with some duck nest boxes she can't get into and make the opening to the Orpington coop smaller since she likes hanging out in their coop instead of in her own house. I saw her eat a rotten duck egg we uncovered from months ago and I did not think much of it but now my husband has seen her eat fresh duck eggs.

We have not had Orpington eggs since we got her so I think that mystery is solved. I thought it was the cold and stress of a dog in their coop combined with lack of sunlight but they are the only ones not laying and the dog spends alot of time in the coop. Once we make the door opening smaller tomorrow we will see if the eggs are being eaten.

We should be able to keep the dog out of the chicken coop but getting the ducks to lay in an enclosed shelter may be more difficult since they prefer making nests on the ground. I will have to see what ideas I can come up with by looking at the free section on Craigslist. If I can't find something ready made then perhaps I can at least find building materials. My job ended yesterday so money will be tight for awhile (until I find something else) and the time to start hatching is now.

great thanks! I am super excited. If you decide not to just let me know and I'll try the feed store. Thank you!
I'm tentatively planning a hatch for the last week of March. That will give me some time to save more eggs and put them in the incubator.

Maleficent, my barred rock, has turned out to be the most people friendly. She tries to fly out of her baby box when we walk past. My son has taken to watching TV with her asleep on his lap.
It's funny cuz she was so bossy at first.
Thier little personalities are really coming out. I am truly enjoying this experience.
I also really appreciate having a group of people who understand my chick craze. Coworkers, friends and family look at me like I'm nuts when I have chick stories.
You all get it.
Thanks again,
B

Does anyone have experience with guinea fowl and cold weather? They're about six months old and I lost one that got soaking wet somehow in the night and froze to death

And now my other four are really lethargic. I've set up some lamps and put down lots of hay for them to lay on and I'm feeding them eggs and sunflower seeds along with their regular feed. They've perked up a little but they're still off. Any advice?

I'm sorry. I have no experience to help out
