Liberty. We've had her for 14 years, she was about 4 to 6 years old when we got her. That puts her somewhere between 18 to 20 now. She still plays with the other dogs and chases chickens every chance she gets.

Hello all. New guy here, and new to raising chickens. I am currently working on building my first run and coop, have eight 2-3 week old chicks in a home made brooder for my first flock. see my thread in the coops and runs section to see my progress.

This is our precious Sebie. Unfortunately we had to find him a new home, Our other male (mean) Toulouse didn't care for him. We had to build our Sebie a new safe pen. In the mean time we had to find him a loving home. We found him a home with another Sebie loving person. We wished we had kept our Sebie but knew no one would want a mean goose! As time went by we lost where our Sebie went? we are hoping out there someone must know where this beautiful large Sebie went? at least we are hoping this is the case! If any one knows where this beautiful goose is, please let us know, We are hoping he is doing well in his loving home! If you or any one else has any idea where he could be, that would make our family very happy!!
I don't know anything about ducks but that one is really pretty. I hope you were able to find him again.

We caught our LGD eating eggs so now I have to come up with some duck nest boxes she can't get into and make the opening to the Orpington coop smaller since she likes hanging out in their coop instead of in her own house. I saw her eat a rotten duck egg we uncovered from months ago and I did not think much of it but now my husband has seen her eat fresh duck eggs.

We have not had Orpington eggs since we got her so I think that mystery is solved. I thought it was the cold and stress of a dog in their coop combined with lack of sunlight but they are the only ones not laying and the dog spends alot of time in the coop. Once we make the door opening smaller tomorrow we will see if the eggs are being eaten.

We should be able to keep the dog out of the chicken coop but getting the ducks to lay in an enclosed shelter may be more difficult since they prefer making nests on the ground. I will have to see what ideas I can come up with by looking at the free section on Craigslist. If I can't find something ready made then perhaps I can at least find building materials. My job ended yesterday so money will be tight for awhile (until I find something else) and the time to start hatching is now.

I have heard that dogs like eggs and that they would eat them if they found them. Luckily aspen never did that. Or she did and didn't tell me :) I don't know anything about ducks so I have no suggestions on how to build a place where the dogs can't get to their eggs. Let us know what you come up with.

Her eye in the upper photo looks glassed over, maybe injured ?
If you have a mean rooster or mean dominant hens, they can do pecking damage like that, and even worse than that.

I will get her tomorrow when it is light out again. Hopefully I can hold her still enough to look. But I have to get my nose about touching her nose for me to tell really. Maybe I'll see if the neighbor can look at it more closely. Or maybe I would be lucky and get a good enough picture and you guys can tell me. I was in and out a lot today. All my friends want to take me out for lunch or go for a walk or do something to keep me distracted from losing my dog. But then I walk in the door and she's not here and I lose it all over again. Oh well. Tomorrow is going to be the same way. I need to rehome two or three of my chickens anyway and if I find out which one is beating up this one they might end up first on the list to go.

My wonderful Samantha.........had her 16 years, she was always with me, even at work.and then I had to put her down, 2011.................I still cry over her............... I held her as my vet gave her the lethal shot, and I told Sam over & over "Come back to me"........and I am waiting.....................:(
She was very pretty.

Here's another picture from the other day, I think her eye looks normal in this one. But quite frankly I don't really know what chickens eyes are supposed to look like.

Dang, that's kind of a scary picture. I just zoomed one of the ones I took the other day.
Hair is my cat keeping track of the new checks. This is why there is a cover over the top of it :)

He actually doesn't make any attempts to get them until they are old enough and they fly out of there when I'm cleaning it or something. Then he suddenly tries to catch lunch.
