Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

My schipperke, Fiery, lived to 16. She was getting senile. Was mostly deaf and the cataracts were getting bad.

She was a runt and never got to normal schip size, so that may have effected her lifespan.

She survived a nasty bout of pyometra at age 12 and had to have an emergency spay. She was a bit accident prone. That may be because she thought she was a cat. There wasn't much she couldn't climb. We tried to use baby gates to keep her in spots. She would use the wall and any nooks in the gates to climb over.

We fixed the coop to keep her out now but the ducks only have one nest box since they prefer to make their own nests and change to a new nest when we steal their eggs. I am looking for ideas but for now we are out grabbing eggs off the ground as frequently as possible.

I literally mess the hay nest my Perkins use in their duck house every time I collect eggs. I have three and they all use the same nest. I read online they get skiddish if eggs are taken and this seems to help that. No eggs in pen on ground.

WELCOME!!! Great group here. Congrats on you new chicks. Beware! Chicken math is REAL.... LOL!

Where abouts are you located? I'm in Lacey.

Looking forward to getting to know you.
hi! New-bee as well. It's so nice to have peeps I can share with and who can answer my many new chick-mom questions.
I'm in Enumclaw. I have 3, 3 week old chicks and 3, 1 week old chicks.all are in the house still.
I got 1 barred rock, 2 Wyandottes, 2 Americaunas and 1 wellsummer.
My barred rock is the most people friendly thus far. My Americaunas are Uber friendly as well.
Of course they are ALL cute!
Welcome!

Hi Bee! Yes, they are all so cute! I have NINETEEN new babies that just recently hatched. I'm hiding my incubator from myself to prevent me from being any more crazy than I already am!!! LOL

I'm curious what types of chicks you hatched?
That's a lot of work!!

They are a barnyard mix. Lots of Olive Eggers. Some are showing frizzled feathering, which I'm excited about!

400

I can have 10... might try to stretch that "a bit"... lol
