Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Orange Julius stores (in the 70s) used to make a shake with whipped fresh OJ and a raw egg that was (and still is) awesome.
But  it is said that all the proteins in an egg are not complete unless you cook them...............then the humble egg is a complete protein, and tastes better too!
I will try it. I always say i will try anything twice. The first-time may be mood dependant.

years and years ago orange julius was new and they have the orange drink with the egg
in it as @Chickielady said this was back in the 70's

i've never tried raw egg...
should i?

Whites contain the antinutrient avidin that binds biotin. Cooking helps deactivate it (but not fully). Need a good source of biotin to counteract it, which egg yolk is a very good source. Eggs are one of the easiest protein to digest, cooked or raw.

I used step in posts and deer netting one year to keep the chickens out of the garden. It actually did fine against the deer as well. The elk just ran through it.

Ok, is it weird that I'm all excited that my mealworm starter supply came in yesterday and I already have one new pupae and one new beetle? LOL I decided to farm my own since I spent WAY to much last summer buying them for the wild bird babies I raise for the wildlife rescue I work at. Decided since I also have chickens now, I'd give it a shot. LOL Can't wait for them to start to multiply!

We spent so much time learning the life stages before realizing there is info online so we could have just looked it up, lol. We used expired baby cereal we got free and that made iteasy to sift out the pupae and beetles, which we separated since beetles will eat all other life stages and the pupae get eaten by all other life stages. We only sifted out the big ones to feed and the rest of the worms were together. We used potato slices for water but they dried out before they were completely eaten so I always soaked them in water to maximize the time before they dried up.

This year we are going to set up a black soldier fly (BSF) colony since they can be fed compost and they are self sorting by leaving the compost when they reach a certain stage. At that stage they stop eating and pooping so they are very clean to feed and highly nutritious. We are wanting to trap fly eggs to start our colony but we may just order some larvae to get started if we need to speed it up a bit. I have read all about them so we are looking forward to starting up a colony as the weather warms up.

lol! Can you tell I don't eat raw syuff? Except raw veggies. I was vegan raw for a year. Lol!

Oh my God, that would be difficult. But probably pretty healthy. I could be a vegetarian if I absolutely had to but I don't think I could be vegan. My New Year's resolution, yes I know it is March, is to basically convert myself to a whole food diet. Try to stop eating the processed stuff. But my biggest addiction is pop. I love my Dr Pepper. If I can break that habit it will be Americal. I've cut way back but haven't stopped.

I've thought about doing that, I did have some of them when I had a box turtle. I've also thought about the black soldier flies. But I haven't research that enough to really know what goes into it. My neighbors would be unhappy if there's a bunch of flies around.
