Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

none of mine go broody
None of my Barred Rocks have ever showed the slightest interest in brooding. Every now and then, an Easter Egger will consider it, but never actually does. I've never hatched the Australorp eggs though. I'd rather have a flock that lays well rather than a flock full of broody hens. The Australorps are kept around specifically for raising chicks.

I've got three. Between them, someone is always broody from June through October. Last time around two of them shared chicks.
I have had 5 Brody's since spring the one I'm using this is her third time this year she has raised chicks before but none of the others have or I would have split the eggs between them. Guess I should let some of the others raise a couple of chicks so I know they would stick with it.

sure agree with that one I sell the eggs faster than they can lay them reason we built the 3rd coop

Same here eggs are easy to get rid of. I also have 3 barred rocks only one went broody for about 3 days stopped her by putting her out in the run 3 or 4 times a day and putting her on the roost after dark and she just gave up never to go broody again.

Mine never tried had one easter egger think she might but let three die I gave her and she has not tried again... keep thinking about getting two Silkie from Hinotori let them be broody for me

I have three black australorps two seem to take turns being broody and the other one I'm not sure if she even lays eggs or not there is no sign of the rooster even touching her she doesn't have a feather out of place a very pretty girl.

I have always heard that australorps are great egg layers, don't remember hearing that they go broody. A friend of mine has a chicken that she just can't break from going Rudy. She's really frustrated and doesn't know what else to do. I think it is an old English game hen.
