Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Hi everyone, I am new and just wanted to introduce myself here. I live in Bothell with 5 of my 7 kids (2 are grown and have moved out), 2 parrots, 2 dogs, and our 7 newly acquired Silkie chicks.
I am actually curious about those who have younger Silkie chicks and whether they plan to keep them in a coop this Winter or inside. Mine are about 8-weeks-old now and though I'm sure they would be "fine" in a coop, I am more concerned with them being comfortable and not cold. Thoughts?

Hi all! Thought I should finally post on the WA thread. I live in Bow (just north of Mt. Vernon...amazing how many people have no idea where Bow is that live on the West side of the state). I also spend a lot of time at Lake Cavanaugh.

I'm a city girl transplant. Born and raised in Seattle and then moved to Shoreline for many years. Always been my dream to get out of the city once the kids grew up and moved out. That finally happened last year so here we are in Bow and loving every minute of it!

I am new to chickens this year and currently have a flock of 20 hens. Again, loving every minute of it!

Also spent a lot of time growing up during hunting season on the east side of the state in Mesa, Basin City and Othello. Even went to WSU.

My Dad was an avid trap shooter and pheasant hunter and I was basically raised on trap ranges and have walked many beet fields (in the old days), corn, alfalfa fields and orchards in my day. I hunted with him until I hit my late teens and then developed an aversion to killing things. Not that I'm anti-hunting or anti-gun! It's just not for me (the hunting part) so I continued to go with him, just not carry a shotgun. I continued to go with him until my Dad passed, because it was so beautiful and peaceful there and developed friendships with the farmers that let us hunt their land.

It was during those hunting trips that I knew I would someday live rural, raise chickens, goats and have a huge garden! Well, I live rural now, have the chickens and the huge garden, but no goats.....yet! :) Those trips also developed my love of nature, art and photography.

Anyway, just thought I would say hello and will keep track of this thread. I think I've become chicken obsessed!
Hello, I am new here and am kind of reading through some of the posts here in the WA thread and your caught my eye because you said you live in Bow near Mount Vernon and you're right...I have never even heard of it and Mount Vernon is my favorite area to drive to just to go drive around and look at all the farms. I also love the Wildlife Area out there on Wylie road. Anyway, nice to "meet" you!

@Giannine Hello and welcome to BYC! To me it's actually a good thing not a lot of people know where Bow is because that keeps it rural and quiet around here which is why we moved here in the first place from Shoreline. Folks also know this area as Bow-Edison.

I'm much more familiar with Bothell than Mill Creek but I know they meld together. Since moving to Bow, I avoid Seattle and the areas just north of it as much as possible. Can't handle all the traffic jams anymore. Luckily, I rarely have to go that far south since Burlington and Mount Vernon have pretty much every store I usually go to and only about 15 minutes away.

Again, welcome to BYC. This site has been a huge resource in helping me get started raising my first flock of chickens. I hope you find it as helpful too!

hey there I am kinda clueless about contractors but want to welcome you to the site glad you decided to join I know we have other members up your way they may know some people who could help

really now that would cause me distress also ... We have bought a gas stove converted for propane our tiny town has no natural gas so propane is the one way.. having issues with leaks between the house and the tank BF did not tape pipes as he went to having to go through them to do it now started for real yesterday afternoon ended up out to dinner 3rd night in a row out for dinner pulling out little stove taken from a rv we stripped tonight

Ah, I know where Bow-Edison road is so I assume Bow must be near there...I have been telling my kids that if I could live anywhere, it would be Skagit County. I love it out there because of all the farms and fields. Mill Creek is literally on the other side of our backyard fence. Really, just north Bothell.
Thank you for the welcome:)

the stove started on fire the minute all was hooked up gas coming out of all 5 burners at one time I ran to shut the tank off James grabbed a fire extinguisher... now we are cleaning the extinguishers powder from everything in the kitchen, dining and living room
I will cook tonight on the old electric stove again then tuesday the place we bought it is coming out to see what happened to his surprise it will not come back in this house....
think tomorrow I will try a new soup I am trying we will have fresh spinach, arugula, pepper lettuce, dill, greek oregano and fresh tomato ..... then there is a salad to go with Avgolemono, a chicken and lemon soup and sourdough rolls
