Takes a mean nasty broody for some cats to learn, even when they are still young. Luke would go after chicks and I had to stitch one I beat him off of. Next time he tried it, it wasn't a silkie hen. The EE hen and her chicks were with the rest of the large fowl flock. She went psycho when he went for her chick. To follow that up, the rest of the flock heard and came running to help. He had over a dozen hens after him. For the next several months they attacked any cat they saw on sight. He did learn finally.
Poor Leia. She liked to go lay down and watch the chicks but never even twitched towards them. She found herself on the receiving end of hen attacks too.
Eventually the hens learned to tell them apart. Leia can go plop down by the hens and watch the chicks from up close. Luke gets threatened if he gets too near them.
