Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

The chickens and my ducks are the reason I get up too... I have other animals but they are more forgiving on feeding times lol I have to butcher 3 or 4 of my hens that are grown but haven't ever done it before. I haven't decided if I will do it or have my friend do it :oops:
I do mine in 143 degree water for 60 to75 seconds then hang and start plucking using a cone like Penny said is the ticket. You can check out a site called cornerstone they have processing equipment shrink bags I love those for my broilers. You can click on the information box and scroll down where it says more information and it tells you temperatures for scalding and how to butcher.

All my girls and the two cockerels come running , now Hinotori her and those Silkies wow
mine sit in my lap or peck at my feet

Ive selected for friendliness. Had one hen who was super sweet so most of the flock is distantly related to her now. Careful choice in roosters has resulted in stalker chickens.

Some are nice broodies and some are evil. I don't punish them or cull them for aggression when broody.

I will definitely check it out... it is why we just bought some new chicks knowing some of the girls are about to be food. Thank you very much for both of your help. Now only if I had a blind fold lol

I love that stalker chicken phrase :lau:gigbecause it is so true lol I haven't had to deal with a broody chicken yet but I'm sure we will when these babies get bigger because of their breeds

Silkies are actually a very old breed. They appear in the first APA Standard of Perfection. Been in the U.S. for even much longer than that. They are a decorative breed, though. Always have been. And been selected for broodiness in opposition to most other breeds.

My aunt had silkies but she lives in Oklahoma so I haven't ever met a silkie in person. My wife and I think they are absolutely cute!

I have adult roosters that will follow me and tug on my pant legs for attention. If I sit down in their pen, I'm surrounded by them immediately.

Getting IN the pens to feed or water birds is hard. They all get under my feet.

That's awesome... the girls tug on my pant legs too. One of them just did it to my wife for the first time and was shocked. I was like she is demanding your attention. You walked passed her without giving love lol

Two of these girls will attack if I put my hand in there. One on the left is Pumice. She's one of my stalkers and will probably teach the chicks as well
