Thanks! I was actually perusing the wing-clipping article this morning. My girls would fly clean out of the brooder each time I lifted the lid. Not far, usually just to the rim. But far enough to have me concerned. Luckily, they are very tame and take a hand to sit on over anything else. Except Dorothy. She's the rebel. But usually calms once she's got a firm grip.
Remember you only do one wing so the lift is different. I have to keep explaining to Mom that that is why she has such issues with her parrot. Mom does both wings ans Isabel still can make it from her cage to the kitchen, it just takes her more effort.
The bird got outside once and spent a day and a half with my parents searching for her. Neighbor found her in a tree huddled. She couldn't figure out how to fly down to Mom when she was called and just kept crying for her. Mom had to go up a ladder and Isabel latched on to her like a leach. Now the bird is a bit paranoid of the outside, thankfully. I think the blue jays attacking her did that.
