Well it depends. I've had birds that all want the same box. I have 6 boxes available for 14 but they prefer 2 of them.

I have 3 boxes for 11 birds and there's a definite favorite, but all the boxes get used.

I have 5 boxes and they squawk over two. I love how they stand right outside of the box screaming at the hen laying to get out. So funny.
