Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

11 degrees is our high today 😂🥶 I think we went down to about 7 last night. Should be even colder tonight with snow over the next few days. My chickens are getting SUPER grumpy with this level of cold. A few tips of combs are starting to turn white, I’m a little nervous they’ll get frostbite! They just need to hold on for a few more days and then we should get back into the 20s at night 🤞🏻

Last night the flock spent a lot more time in the coop... and this morning one of my girls was picked bloody 😭 I brought her down and bathed her, and applied pick no more, so I hope the rest will leave her alone now!

Below are her before and after bath pictures. The bald spot is much bigger than it looks, so I’m glad her other feathers will help cover the opening and keep her warm

My hens are used to snow and cold. I have 6 week old chicks cozy in the coop. I have an old faux fur vest I was going to donate, but I put in hand warmers, and will put in the coop for those 6 week olds. I have roosters but they are young enough they are not bothering hens. In cold weather, I think it would be hard on hens to have to fend off a romantic rooster as well.

We hit 34° today. It was definitely warmer over in Tacoma and in downtown Puyallup when we did the run to the doctor then bookstore.

Did our shopping today. We'll just stay home tomorrow and hope it all washes away on Sunday when it's supposed to warm back up.

Hubby has Friday's off because of how his work is running schedules. He talked to one of the guys who worked today. Less than half the normal people were in today.
