Where did you get your chicks from, WhySayWhat?
Meyer Hatchery, they have a live delivery guarantee, I'll email them tomorrow about the dead chick, but I'll only be asking for a refund on that one, I can't have 3+ more showing up. I was so nervous about having them shipped, but I hear I was very lucky to "only" have 1 DOA. So far this morning, I've counted all 14 zipping around on the camera feed (hubby named it "ChickCam1"...it's one of the cameras he's putting up in the run. He bought one for inside and one for outside so we can keep an eye on them when they go outside. I like it because they can do their chick thing and I can watch them and not disturb them "too much", lol.

When I went to the feed store yesterday, because my 250w "back up" heat bulb burnt out after being on 5 minutes, they had all their remaining chicks marked 50% off...they had Partridge Barred Rocks and I had to really use all my self-control not to scoop one or 3 up! The only "extra" I bought yesterday was a larger bell waterer (they haven't really taken to the nipple waterers like I had hoped and it was only $4. My one Lt Brahma has been using the nipples, but she runs away whenever the others come near, like she's keeping that water source a secret.

Yeah. When I got my ducks from Metzer this spring, there were 3 DOA and one that died the first evening. Sad. :(

I have some security cams that I bought for watching my house in Virginia when I had some construction done that I'm probably going to repurpose to chicken cams when I get my coop and run done. It's fun to be able to watch them do their chicken thing. As to waterers, mine took to the nipples pretty quickly. Thank goodness, because I was getting tired of cleaning out all of the bedding and poop all the time!

My husband is a big Tech guy (he’s a network engineer), so he’s running fiber optic cables out to the coop (our old shed). 🤣. He also claims to not like the chickens at all, but every time I bump the cam, he’s out there checking on it. Yes, poop and crud in the water drives me insane! They’re slowly catching on to the nipples, I’ll probably take the bell out next week, just have to see how it goes. The nipples can be filled from outside, which I prefer.

They were avoiding the area with the heat lamp today, so turned it off for now. They seem much happier now that it’s cooled down a few degrees. I put the heat lamp in yesterday as they were acting too cold woth it above the crate. Maybe they just needed a little help warming up after shipping. 🤷🏻‍♀️ They’re all bee bopping in, out, and around the brooder now, zipping in and out from under the warming plate.
