Yes, they're sapphire rocks. That's one of the breeds I wanted when I started getting chicks and they had some yesterday when we went to pick up a stall mat. I'm weak and Mom is an enabler. LOL.

Struggling to keep temps steady...250w was too warm, 100w is too cold. Ordered a flat ceramic (no light) heat bulb and another heat lamp today, but they won’t be here until Monday afternoon, so I’ll keep playing with changing the bulbs back and forth looking for that “sweet spot” until then. I couldn’t find a local source for those flat ceramic heat bulbs, so had to order.

When kids help in naming...so far we have Reba, Carmel, Penguin, and (maybe) Violet.

Today’s job list includes moving the brooder box up onto a set of card tables to hopefully help with the heat issue (currently on cold concrete) as well as get them up where I’m not quite so big and scary!

I'm having a hard time with the heat for my two new ones as well. I think it's because my house is warmer. I had to raise my 250W up high (didn't have a 100 on hand) and shift the brooder a bit to the side. It seemed to be going okay this morning when I left for work, so fingers crossed.

I should have all females... and a 6 year old that wants to do nothing but to sit and hold them. Along with a crate that is longer and wider than my arms can reach.
